I'm looking for a PCP in the Davis/Porter area (or general Cambridge/Somerville area, as long as there is T access to his/her office). I would prefer a female doctor (being a gal and all), but he or she must be GLBT friendly. Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks!

Dr. Deb Bershel, the doctor formerly known as Dr. Roy Berkowitz-Sheldon, sounds like a good fit, especially because she fits in that "T" part of the GLBT.

Bershel practices out of Davis Square Family Practice, and I'm pretty sure they've been recommended plenty of times in the past here -- that's how I wound up with her as my PCP!

I second DSFP!

I go to Dr. Brodsky, who is also a woman, and I love her. I've never had any experience with Dr. Bershel, but everyone I have dealt with in the office has been wonderful.

Unfortunately, when I called two weeks ago, I was told Dr. Brodsky isn't accepting new patients :-(

Thirding it here! I generally see Carol Dansky there and she's been great: very patient and kind. I did she Dr. Bershel once (when still Berkowitz-Sheldon), and she was also super.

(You probably will spend a long time in the waiting room, though so bring a book.)

I'm a guy, so I can't speak to all of your concerns, but I've had no problems with Davis Square Family Practice (behind Starbucks) and Dr. Deborah Bershel there is trans herself.

:::nodding::: I have found Dr. Matei to be really great, too. She listens to me without seeming rushed and takes my constant fat-talk and queer-talk in stride.

My doctor is the BEST! His names is David Hirsh and he works out of the Senior Health Center on Mass Ave in Central. He's younger and incredibly open-minded (and informative) about women's health issues, etc.

I've liked everyone I've seen at Somerville Family Practice (on Broadway, near Paulina St.).

Yeah, Parra Tompkins is female and queer-friendly. She and her co-practitioner Dr. Coffey (male) are really great.

I second the recommendation of Somerville Family Practice, where I'm a patient, which is at 1020 Broadway. Tompkins and Coffey are at 643 Broadway - Family Medicine at Ball Square, which I've also heard good things about.

I was looking for info on Dr. Tomkins and found this thread. Thanks! I guess she's my new PCP.

I too sing the praises of Davis Square Family Practice. What a group of super people. They go above and beyond - calling to check in, etc. I see Dansky and Berschel.

Chiming in too on the Bershel bandwagon. I'm also somewhere in that lbgt spectrum, and Bershel is wonderful and understanding. :-)
