okay I'm to honest not to post this........but there is a limit to my honesty

This morning (around 630ish) when I was on my way out of dunkin donuts (in davis of course) a ring caught my eye that was laying on the ground. It was found directly in front of the store, I asked the few people around if they dropped a ring and noone did.

So for what its worth: The ring is real, it has three stones mounted in a white gold band. The stones are all shaped in three unique shapes, describe to me what the shapes are and what the stones are and i will return the ring to you. I know what it likes to loose jewelry and this ring looks like it has some meaning behind it.

If I don't get any replies to this post with-in two weeks I'm pawning it (like I said there is a limit to my honesty....I know I'm an ass).

Seriously though, if this ring belongs to you e-mail me at Poseidons_Thoughts@yahoo.com with the accurate description and I will reply back to set up a meeting place.

You should turn it into the police. The fraction of people who read this blog compared to the "real world" is tiny.

If you pawn it and it is reported stolen, you could get really screwed.

If someone loses an expensive ring, they're going to report it to the police: they need to do that so that they can get reimbursed through insurance. If you sell it to a pawn shop, you could get arrested for selling stolen goods... even though you just picked it up off the street.

I agree with the other posters that you should put up notices at the scene, but you should also call the Somerville Police and talk to them about turning it over just to cover your ass. The PD have a chain of custody for things like this, so their honesty doesn't enter into it. IIRC if nobody claims it after some lengthy amount of time then they'll give it back to you free and clear.

Posting about the ring in Live Journal won't stop you from going to jail: how many people who walk through that area do you think actually read this thing? One percent?

I agree he should go to the cops - but come on. The likelihood of 1) Somerville cops having time to go after a ring thief is pretty nil, and 2) The cops actually trying to charge someone for something like that is pretty nil as well.

Basically you report it to the cops and if in one year no one claims it, its yours.
