UPS delivered a large package from Target.com to my front porch yesterday. This was a surprise, because I had not ordered anything. It was addressed to Steven P., which was also a surprise because I'm not Steven P. Nor do I know anyone by that name. The address, though, was definitely mine. It was late, so I decided to deal with it today.

I found Target's customer support number and called them. They asked me to open the package to find the bill so we could track down who had ordered it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a gift for Steven, so all there was, was a card and the gift itself.

None of the magic identifying numbers on the outside of the box helped, so the nice lady at Target recommended that I donate this item to charity.

However, before I do that, I thought I'd ask the Davis Square community. I figure he's probably my neighbour, and somebody out there knows him. Do any of you know Steven P.? If you do, reply to this post telling me what birthday he's celebrating, and we'll see if we can get his present to him.

Edit: I know who's lived here for the past 10 years, and it's not Steven P. And I know for certain that Steven doesn't have an email address or phone number, so he's not in a directory anywhere.

Second edit: Little Steven's first birthday will be happier, now that his gift has been delivered. Also, I've hidden his last name now so that robots can't find him. [livejournal.com profile] ron_newman sleuthed it out online.

how would you know if he now has a mailing address, a domain, an entry in the database mentioned below, etc.?

Isn't there a tracking number on the package, or on a piece of paper attached to the package? It should be possible to enter that into UPS's website and find out where the package was supposed to go.

Just a note that this comment still has his last name in it.

Hmm - Allston is 02134, Davis Square is 02144. I suppose the next step is for you two to determine whether you live at the same street address in different towns.

You may want to check with your landlord, or record of deeds (if you own) to see if someone with that name lived at your address in the past.

Hunh, that name sounds vaguely familiar to me, but I can't say from where.

(Furthermore, but unrelatedly, your name seems vaguely familiar to me too, and I am wondering if we once me at [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar's.)

Dang, I was gonna start guessing:

First birhday?

No? Second birthday?

No? Oh, I forgot, today we are three!

Since I'm curious, and only coming to this post after things had been (understandably) screened, how did [livejournal.com profile] ron_newman track him down?

Someone else suggested whitepages.com, I threw in zabasearch.com as well.

so now that it's over, how did the package end up at your house instead of the right one? Right street, one digit wrong in the address?
