I'm looking to have my locks re-cored so that a single key opens the front, back, and basement doors (instead of the 5 keys required now).  I'm looking for recommendations for reputable area locksmiths.  Many of the local listings seem to be hijacked by a single national company with local looking listings.  Their numbers all go to the same dispatching service and it's impossible to find a "real" local locksmith.

Thanks in advance!

I liked Christina's lock company when I used them, but that was almost ten years ago:

I've heard a lot of good things about Commonwealth Lock, but I didn't go with them because they had inconvenient business hours. I ended up getting some of the new electronic combination locks and installing them myself instead of going with a locksmith, so I don't have much else to add.

I recently had a positive experience with a locksmith from Union Sq. I think this is his contact info:

I had it done at home depot. For 4 locks (2 deadbolts and 2 knobs) it cost around $28 before tax, plus they give you 1 key for each lock...

this was a year ago, the prices might have changed...

You might be able to get the cylinders rekeyed without changing the hardware, and you could (if you were interested) take the cylinders out yourself.

forgot to mention, dunno if you're looking for someone to come to your house to do this, but, as for home depot, you have to bring the locks to them...

Many of the local listings seem to be hijacked by a single national company with local looking listings. Their numbers all go to the same dispatching service and it's impossible to find a "real" local locksmith.

And stay away from them. I asked for this service done and they insisted that they had to change all the hardware -- that I was a total idiot for thinking they could just swap out the cores. In the end they handed me a bill for $500 for only two doors. Since I hadn't gotten a proper estimate from them up-front I chalked it up to a life lesson, but they were incredibly nasty to boot.

check these guys out...
