Crickets?

There's another conversation going on about noise in Davis, but this post is about an absent noise in my specific location -- crickets in summer. Here on Bay State Avenue, at the Powderhouse end of Ball Square, I've never heard a cricket sing at night. Just curious; are there crickets in any other parts of Davis and vicinity?

I hear there's going to be a very cranky cricket on the Theatre@First (http://community.livejournal.com/theatreatfirst/60922.html) stage on July 19-22 and 26-28. I even read about it in the Boston Globe (http://calendar.boston.com/events/show/27564550-Festival-First-C-est-Levine).

On Hall, there were times I could barely sleep for the noise of the crickets. Maybe you're too close to a main drag for them?

I'm down from teele sq between there and tufts and I hear them, but only when I am in my yard. I don't hear they in my room, but my room windows face the street so :shrugs: There are some around.

There are crickets, but certainly not as plentiful as in the past! One summer my husband was so upset at the lack of cricket sounds, he bought a bag of crickets at the pet store and released them in our yard!
I notice that I don't usually hear them till later in the summer - I don't know why that is. And I certaily hear them when I walk along the bike path at night.
Unfortunately, the neighborhoods have become so dense that they are still there, but not like the old days!

Oh my gosh, a few years ago I had exactly the same idea about releasing crickets in my yard! I got talked out of it, having been persuaded that the crickets would only get eaten by birds, and that I shouldn't be introducing outside insects into the ecosystem anyway. How did your husband's crickets do?
