Street party and fireworks on Broadway, Thursday 6/28

The City of Somerville will have a fireworks display at Trum Field, this Thursday night around 9:15. Preceding it will be a street party with musical entertainment on Broadway, starting at 6:30.

There will be no parking on Cedar Street from 8 am to midnight, or on Broadway between Ball and Magoun Squares from 4 pm to midnight. This section of Broadway will be CLOSED, with buses #80 and #89 rerouted into South Medford.

(There will also be a 'Family Fun Day' at Trum Field on Saturday, June 30, from noon to 5 pm.)

How typical of the administration to hold a 4th of July event on June 28th!! Would waiting till the fourth disrupt vacations?

Somerville's been doing this for years. It would be foolish for our small city to compete with Boston's display on the same night.

A lot of Somerville people go to the Prospect Hill Monument on July 4th to watch the Boston fireworks.

This is just the 4th year since Somerville resurrected its' fireworks display. And on the other years, it was at least held in July! A week ahead is just a little bit absurd!

Last year, the Somerville fireworks were on June 29. (Click on the "holidays" tag and scroll back a year, and you'll find the announcement.)

I don't remember exactly when they were held the previous two years, but I think it was always the week before July 4th.

Are you seriously complaining about fireworks? It's FIREWORKS!!!! Woohoo!!! More fireworks!!!! Who cares when they have them?

There's a 70% chance of gnarly Thunderstorms (http://www.weatherunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=02143&hourly=1&yday=178&weekday=Thursday) on Thursday, so it will probably end up happening on July 7 anyhow. That suits me better bc I love fireworks but I already have plans to go see this interesting movie called Radical Jesters (http://www.townonline.com/somerville/homepage/x1049382959), made by Somervillian Tim Jackson.
