Does anyone know of a walk-in health clinic in the Davis area or anywhere reasonably near? Car- or T-accessible, must have a person who can write out a prescription. Free is good, but not absolutely necessary. Ideally, would accept Private HealthCare Services; but again, not having to wait a month to see a doctor for a Rx refill is key.

The Cambridge Health Alliance hasn't yielded much, most people are telling me to go to an emergency room. That remains as a last option, but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

Many thanks!

i hear good things about the Mt Auburn walk-in clinic and it's never been crowded when i go through it to get to my doctor.

I second Mt. Auburn - very pleasant, only a short wait. And the bus from Harvard Square leaves every five to ten minutes and drops you right in front.

You can take the 71 bus or the 73 bus from the underground depot at the Harvard Square MBTA stop. They leave really frequently and it is less than 5 minutes to the hospital stop.

I was going to say-- I thought the Cambridge Health Alliance had an urgent-care clinic?

Maybe call them up and ask "it's urgent but not an emergency, does anyone have an appointment this week? Can I see an NP to get an RX re-auth?"

Also, if you have an old RX that has no refills left, you can usually call your old doctor and get them to call it in for you.

Closed for the whole summer? What do students do who are taking summer-term classes there?

This may not be applicable to this instance but there is a Planned Parenthood in Davis Square.

Somerville Hospital also has an "Express Care" center:

Good luck and stay healthy.

perhaps Davis Square Family Practice, in that little plaza next to Starbucks?

I believe that Davis Square Family Practice (in the plaza behind Starbucks) has a walk-in day on Wednesdays, you could call them and ask. (the web claims they can be reached at (617) 666-9577 ) I wouldn't expect them to be around this Wednesday, though.

I have always been able to see a practioner (either prescribing RN or a doctor) the same day I call at Harvard Vanguard on Holland St, but I don't know if that's because I have my primary care physician with them. (617) 629-6350 .

The magic trick is to call first thing in the morning (like 8:05am) and ask to see someone today.

If the RX you're looking for happens to be birth control you can go to the Planned Parenthood Express Clinic (also in the plaza off of Elm St.) (617) 616-1600

And lastly, the Mount Auburn emergency room claims to have a fast track for urgent issues where they have you in and out in 90 minutes, but I haven't any experience with it.

Good luck!

Ah, I was going to second HV, especially if you aren't picky about who you're seeing, but my PCP is there, so... yeah. Good luck!

no go

I tryed the wednesday walk-in day, and it was a no go. They don't do walk-ins. Just figured I would repost to this info. Maybe it will save someone time in the future.

this may be too far for you, but there's the sydney borum health clinic on boylston street, right by the t station.

they're really amazing and helpful and they have walk in hours. glbtq friendly! i was able to get an appointment during walk in hours and now the doctor i saw is my PCP. they have a sliding scale, as far as i know, and if you don't have health insurance, you don't have to pay as much. it's better to call about that sort of thing, though, because i have health insurance, so i could be lying. haha.

anyway good luck!

i know it's a bit far, but the codman square health clinic in dorchester (t accessible) is excellent, and low-cost or free (depending on how much you make). they even have x-rays and things on-site.

Somerville Family Practice on Broadway near Davis Sq also has fairly good turn-around times for making an appointment to see an nurse practitioner. I can usually see someone within 24-48 hours there, and the people there are good.

maggie satterfield is great, and I've just generally heard good things about all the people in that practice. which is good, since if you're walking in, you prolly wouldn't have too much choice in who you saw. :)

The Malden Family Health Center is very good. It recently moved and I've not been to the new location, but it previously had short waits and easy parking. It's affiliated with Hallmark Health.

On Savin Street in Malden, under 20 minute drive from Davis or the 101 bus to Pleasant St & Fellsway East.
