This doesn't seem to have come up recently so I thought I would ask. My bike got stolen while I was at work today. Sob story yes, but it was probably a bit to much bike for me anyway and I'm not terribly surprised it got stolen.

I'd like to get another bike that is a bit more appropriate to what I'm going to do with it. Mainly 1) daily commute (~8miles) and 2) bike the Minuteman 1-2 times a week. I'd also like something I'm not overly concerned with getting stolen so a used bike is preferable to a new bike. I was wondering if anyone had experience with Bikes not Bombs or could recommend another good place to get used bikes in the area? Bonus points for intro reasonably priced bike maintenance classes.

I second Broadway Bicycle Shop. I've never been myself, but always heard good things, and it is similar to Bikes Not Bombs.

Bikes Not Bombs is definitely worth the trip, though. I had a bike built up there for only $200 (a used frame, new parts) and it was fantastic. I love the place and the people that work there are great. Not to mention the whole organization does a ton of good in the community.

I agree, BNB is great. Only catch is, they take awhile to build your bike. I had to wait about 2 months, if I recall correctly. Maybe things have gotten faster since they've moved. I would call them to make sure. But yes, big points for teen vocational training.
