Hullo all. I've just moved here from Chicago and am in the process of getting acclimated. Anyone know of a good dry-cleaner in the area?

I tried Winn Cleaners and had the most awful experience. The lady I dealt with (who is, I believe the proprietor) was obnoxious and rude and lost my clothes! It took her days to locate a number of them.

Any other suggestions? I'm willing to travel so anything in the Camberville or even Medford area is fair game.

Cheers,
Tish

Try Cleaning Portal on Mass Ave in Porter Square.
Prices are not bad.

Zoots in Porter Square is expensive but uses perc-free cleaners, offers lots of discounts, and is tech friendly (email notification when order is ready for pickup, etc.)

Royal White on Cedar Street near the bike path has been very good for me for a number of years now.

Walden Cleaners (http://maps.google.com/maps?um=1&q=walden+cleaners&near=Somerville,+MA&fb=1&view=text&latlng=42391502,-71123439,3841705316326070450) on Mass Ave between Davis and Porter. I've only had very good experiences with them.

I had a good experience with the place in Ball Square.

I'm a big fan of the dry cleaners on the Porter Square end of Davis Square on Elm St., which I believe is this one: Davis Square Cleaners -- 237 Elm St, Somerville, MA, 02144, (617) 628-3950.

I moved away from the Davis Square area a number of years ago and have been to a couple of dry cleaners since, but I keep coming back to hoarding my dry cleaning until I am able to get back to Davis Square.

Also, not a dry cleaning recommendation, but the one time I went there, the place in Ball Square was very accommodating with an alteration that I needed done on a tight timeline.

I've had bad experiences with the one on Elm St in Davis, don't know the name, but it's somewhere between Mike's and Diesel. She doesn't seem to keep the clothes in any particular order, and can never find them. Once she even accused me of already picking up the clothes and forgetting about it (um, then why did I still have the little pink pick up slip?) She eventually found them, but I won't go back.

I like the one in Ball Square.

is that Eleni? I think of her as more of a tailor/seamstress than a dry cleaner.

I use Hawk Cleaners up in Teele (Holland to Broadway, take a left and go to the end of the block). I can't say whether they are cheap or expensive compared to other cleaners but except for one issue I've never had a problem with them in a decade of using them.

ZOOT'S

It's a little pricy, but coupons are easy to be found. It's also less chemically and claims to be better for the environment.
