There is (or was a week or so ago) a letter up in Diesel about their plans for it. Apparently it'll be called Bloc11 and be not a carbon copy of the Davis Square location. I've gone past the location a couple of times and it looked (before they put up the plywood) like a nice big space. On Bow Street, I think? I'm not great with street names, but I know how to walk there. :-p
I've heard a rumor a long while ago. But nothing new about the situation, I think that since there hasn't been alot of talk about it that it may still be getting worked on. Or maybe they are not planing on doing it.
Location spots are tough down there, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are still fleshing out the thought to opening.
Diesel will have to compete with Sherman's. Sherman's kicks their ass because they don't have the attitude and the Internet is free. The staff is also a lot friendlier and chill compared to the bitter employees Diesel digs up.
I worry about Sherman's survival actually, considering they close so early compared to Diesel. Hopefull they will coexist peacefully.
My cafe of choice is Toscanini's and Sons, now "The Biscuit." Why'd they change that? I think the new name is hilarious. Sounds like a bakery for dogs.
I know-The Biscuit sounds like a dog shop. That sounds cheesy. They better have some damn good biscuits.
My only gripe about Sherman's is the hours. They do suck. They need to step it up a bit. I bought a pound of coffee from them this morning and it was incredibly good.
i think the reason sherman closes early is because they don't have the business. they used to be open a little later, but started closing earlier because they didn't have enough customers that late. or something...
I live / work right around the corner from the "new Diesel / Bloc11". It has been under construction for quite some time and looks like it still has a way to go before completion. The Diesel people and OR the owner of the building is pouring a lot of money in to that place. Very ambitious .. I respect their courage / investment. I have seen MANY businesses fail in Union SQ over the years so it will be interesting to see if they can make a go of it. Union does just not have the foot traffic ( especially after 7 P.M. that Davis has) I wish them the best and will be there when they open.
they were supposed to open in july (as of last month). as of last week, the new target is apparently sometime in august. they've already started hiring & training people that they're going to put to work in the new place after it opens.
