Hello Davis!

Someone asked a similar question about JP in [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n. Can anybody tell me about what time the trick-or-treaters usually make the rounds? I live in Porter, but I imagine it's a similar time range . . . Of course, it may be different this year, given that we're still on DST . . . But mostly, I'm looking to see if I should work from home if I want to get my chance frighten small children.

Okay, thank you!

This might sound like a silly question, but when kids go trick-or-treating, do they only ring the doorbell for the bottom-floor apartments (in houses that have two or three apartments, which seem to be the majority around here), or for all of them?

I live in a third floor apartment, and the whole trick-or-treating thing hadn't crossed my mind, but after reading this post I'm wondering if I should have some candy on hand.

Well of course you should! Because if the kids don't come... oh darn, eat it yourself, tragic. ^_^

I lived on the second floor of a three-floor (three apartment) house on Conwell. I knew neither of the other two apartments would probably have candy, so I made a sign on the door instructing kids to ring the #2 bell. For a while I also just sat out on the front porch. Conwell is a nice long street with mostly family housing (despite its proximity to Tufts), so a lot of kids were out.

Oh, that's a good idea. I was thinking that sitting on the front porch might make more sense than coming down from the third floor anyway, so maybe I'll do that for a little while.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays anymore since I get to sit out on my porch, see kids in costumes, and maybe meet some of my neighbors.

We used to lower a basket from our old third-floor porch, with a flashlight illuminating the goods. If you've got a perch, highly recommended.

I've been amazed that kids around here don't observe the "no lights = no candy rule". I lived in Teele Square and never saw kid one. Moved to Ball Square and forgot to buy any candy, turned off my porch light and watched TV in the dark. The buggers rang the bell like I had put up a "free Hannah Montana tickets" sign on the door.

Guess I'll have to put out my SEX OFFENDER LIVES HERE flyers so I can watch Matlock in peace.

Sorry for the belated reply but: Kids will ring all the bells depending on factors like how inviting the house looks, what their parents tell them to do, and so forth. If you put a pumpkin on the porch you're much more likely to get your bell rung. Of course, since it's supposed to be a nice night, sitting on the porch with your bowl is certainly a good option as well. Enjoy the weather, see the cute kids, eat some candy, maybe meet some neighbors. There is no bad here :)
