according to someone I talked to inside the store today. I notice that the "pharmacy" sign outside the store is still covered up, so I wonder if that part of the store isn't ready yet.
Hey, was that you that stopped by on the bicycle last night? I kind of lamented that I hadn't gotten my arse into gear for decorations this year, and then you went on to catch up with a friend.
I'm kind of excited - I got very confused walking by it the other day because I wasn't accustomed to another storefront there after all the construction and such. Plus, though I prefer the Porter Square CVS pharmacy for my prescription needs, I would love to be able to hop into a CVS in Davis should I need to grab something - the stores there don't cut it.
I'm actually really glad Rite-Aid's going to have some competition. Right now, so many DS residents fill their prescriptions there that the pickup line is usually quite long during peak times. (I know, I could go non-peak. ) I've also found the pharmacists to be a bit snippy when you request a refill in person vs. using their phone system. And, CVS has a better loyalty card program for non-prescription purposes.
I prefer CVS because my father has worked in their home office for almost 30 years, and also because they carry some brands I like that other drugstores don't always have. I like having one in Davis more than I like having one in Porter, really, and wouldn't miss the one in Porter now if it were to go away.
AFAIK, Massachusetts law requires that if you have a sign saying "pharmacy", you must in fact be an operating pharmacy.
This leads to some amusing incidents. I remember going past a Walgreens while it was being built; the construction site had a sign on the fence saying "Walgreens, the [piece of plywood nailed onto sign to cover the word 'pharmacy'] America trusts".
there's a new CVS being built on Washington St. downtown (which may be open already, I haven't walked up that way in a week or so) that had what looked like a scrap of fluorescent green posterboard taped onto the sign over the "Pharmacy".
I thought I saw another fairly amusing covering/removing of the "pharmacy" portion of some CVS signage, but I can't recall it specifically now.
That's hilarious. I doubt somebody would go through the trouble of covering the "pharmacy" bit unless that particular law is actually enforced. Against pharmacies under construction. Meaning some knucklehead must have complained to the Powers That Be after they tried to get their drugs on at a construction site. Wow.
so I drove through the sq. tonight from the college ave. direction and it was the first time I've seen the lights on top of one davis sq. I'll withhold stating my (ahem) opinion but I wonder what other people think of how they topped the building & how the lights work with it.
Seemed awfully bright to me. If I lived in one of the apartments above Jack Connolly's office or above the Somerville News, those would be shining in my window and I would not be happy.
They're way too bright. It's all I can see when I'm walking down College into Davis. My eyes just automatically go to the top of the building. I was going to give it a week or so, see if they adjust them, and if not, start complaining to Rebecca Gewirtz.
