Our small condominium association is looking to engage a snow removal company for this winter to clear our sidewalks. We've left messages with a bunch of companies with no callbacks so far.

Do any of you/your condo associations have a reliable removal company you can recommend? If you do have snow removal, is it some kind of monthly fee or do you pay per storm or per inch of snow? This is our first time trying to hire someone, so any information would be quite helpful.

Thanks!

stealth construction (http://www.stealthconstruction.net/) just sent me a letter offering their snow removal services. they did some roof repair for me earlier this year, so i was on their customer list.

they do it either as a flat rate or a per-storm thing, i think, depending on the contract you sign with them.

they were great for the construction work they did for me (re-roofing a bit of non-slate roof), but i haven't used them for snow removal.

Don't kids do that?

It would be great if you could pay a neighborhood kid to do it. It doesn't seem like many kids do that kind of thing anymore, but I've been asked a few times by future entrepreneurs if they could shovel my walk. I bet it would be a lot cheaper than getting a professional to do it, and, afterall, it's shoveling snow, not surgery.

Actually it's a sign of the times that kids don't do that, at least in my neighborhood. They are so tightly scheduled that they have no time to shovel the walk. I'm in a similar situation as the OP and we've hired a neighborhood handyman/jack of all trades to do the walks. He does it for a flat fee for the season, but we've had less than great results. He's not an early bird, if you get me, so often by the time he shows up we've had to dig out ourselves. Still it was nice those few big storms we've had when his little riding plow made quick work of the driveway. I'll be interested in other's ideas because we also want to look around this year.
