I was just looking for something in the commercial rental listings on Craigslist and happened to stumble on this rental listing:

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/off/478803910.html

It sounds like the Goodwill, doesn't it? Say it ain't so! Though I suppose it could be the old Buck-A-Book location?

Sorry about this annoying and purely speculative post. I'm just very curious when it comes to changes in Davis Sq.

[edit: petula73 says it's MacIntyre and Moore that it's referring to. phew. (not that I'm not sad to see M&M go but that's old news)]

It is the mac & moore used books space.

Indeed, that is M&M, which is unfortunate, but I knew it was coming so not a shock.

You really scared me for a moment with the idea that it might be my beloved Goodwill!

I'd easily sacrifice Goodwill if M&Ms stayed.

I appreciate M&M, but I do more actual shopping at Goodwill (where I can also buy books). I like browsing M&M and will be sad to see it go, but these days my preference is for the library so I guess I'm part of the problem.

I get waaaaay better scores in the downstairs books section of Goodwill! Still, I am sad to see *any* indie bookshop go under/downsize -- I don't want either to go.

I mean... c'mon, it's only $12,500/month!
No problem! I can just use the money I save by not being able to shop at Macintyre and Moore any more. :-)

Alas, you'll be spending all that saved money at the burrito place that will move into the old Macintyre & Moore location. So many burritos, so little space...

That must be the old DoubleTake space. :( Pretty much the best magazine ever.

Which makes me think .... gone are DoubleTake, Someday, soon M&M, Jimmy Tingle's. Here to stay are burrito, burrito, burrito.

The late lamented DoubleTake was on the second floor of the theater... that ad is for the third floor, currently an advertising agency.

Everyone into the POOL!

maybe we should start a pool to see what goes into the M&M space (curiously, I haven't been in there in years - yet I am in Porter Books every few weeks).

-burrito?
-GAP?
-chatchkee?
-mini mall? (that could actually be kind of cool- bizarre bazaar)
-Trader... nah

After Jimmy Tingle's closed, the landlord put up both a "Live Theatre For Lease" and a "Retail Space For Lease" sign on the front of the building.

I know for a fact it's the mac & moore space because a friend of mine contacted the landlord about a business idea they had.

Studio for rent

From: [identity profile] bostonartist.livejournal.com
If anyone is Davis is interested in renting a space in Union SQ. I have this for rent:

Unique / wonderful 1000 S.F. studio for rent in a small artist building in the Union SQ area. This 1st floor studio has been used as a live in loft at times and as "work only" space at other times over the years. It has 9'7" ceilings and lots of windows. Full kitchen with 1.5 bathrooms ( one bathroom is shared / connected to another studio ). I would like to rent this space to a sole artist to use as a live / work space or to a few people to share as a "work only" space.

The rent is $900 + utilities ( electric and heat = approximately $200 / month) = $1100

Available now.

For more info call : 617-628-5475 or artslides@verizon.net

A tealuxe would be perfect!!!

Or even a good pizza joint in Davis. Nothing good on the pizza scene around here!

Try La Ronga and/or City Cafe, both on Somerville Ave, both very good, but entirely different from each other. City Cafe delivers, La Ronga closes early and is wicked cheap.

Either of them Italian style pizza?

Italian style? I don't think so. La Ronga (http://www.larongabakery.com/) is the closest to New York style (thin crust, slightly sweet sauce) that we've had in the Boston area. City Slicker cafe (http://www.cityslickercafe.com/) (sorry, I left out the slicker in the previous post) is more like a cheese and toppings tart with a very short crust made with olive oil. It's very crunchy and can occasionally be overly greasy, but when it's right, it's fantastic. The folks at City Slicker used to run Urban Gourmet in Ball Square before the Sound Bites owners bought them out (and were subsequently burned out).

I believe you mean City Slicker Cafe, which is phenomenal. It's the same as the Urban Gourmet that burned down in Ball Sq.

So what is the deal with McIntyre and Moore? Are they opening in a smaller space, or going virtual/Net-based a la Kate's Mystery Books, or are they just closing?

This makes me sad. :/ inexpensive math books made me happy.

Informational update:

I'm a real estate agent, so I called the rental broker for some info and was told the space would be available April 1, so in any case, M&M may still be around until early Spring.

The earlier post about McIntyre & Moore, from March 2007, prompted by this Somerville News storyo on March 22. (Lots of comments on that one.)

from what i understand from the staff, M&M is still planning to move to a smaller, cheaper space nearby (the owners may already know which space that is, but i don't).
