My beloved and elderly cat died.  She was on methimazole (it's a thyroid medication), liquid formula.  We had just refilled her prescription, and now we have an unopened bottle.

Does anyone here have, or know of, a pet on methimazole who could use it?

EDIT: we found him, he snuck back into the basement when we weren't looking. All is OK.

If anyone sees a black cat sans collar wandering around Ball Sq, please contact me immediately (alioth at mit dot edu / 617-863-6273) -- our apt on Lowden Ave has just lost one.

The dog is on the bike path near Willow Avenue, against the fence that abuts the RCN property. He's skittish of strangers, so we don't want to chase him into traffic. He seems safe where he is, but if you know the owner, please alert him/her about the loose pooch. I've called Animal Control and 311, so they are aware.

I didn't see anything recent in the #pets tag, so here goes.

We're newly moved to Davis Square, and our 21-year-old kitty would probably prefer a vet closer to our new home - her old one is a 45 minute drive.

She needs a minor invasive procedure every couple of weeks to drain fluid that builds up in her belly due to chronic conditions. It does require some sedation. We think most well-equipped clinics and pet hospitals could do this.

I know many cat lovers in this community - who do you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi all,

My cat has gotten so fat that he isn't able to groom himself properly on his back, and as a result, in the summertime his fur gets terribly matted despite my efforts to brush him regularly. (I keep hoping our other cat will decide to start grooming him, but so far no luck with that.) It's time to get the mats taken care of again. Last year I ended up taking him to the vet to have the mats shaved off, but unfortunately he tends to freak out when he goes to the vet, and they end up having to sedate him, which, in addition to being expensive, is stressful for him and fraught with potential health risks.

So I wonder if you know of someone who is experienced in cat grooming and makes house calls? I've found a lot of mobile dog groomers, and some of them say that they also do cats, but I wonder how good they really are with a cat who, while normally pretty placid, can get vicious when he's scared. Plus he weighs 17+ pounds so he isn't exactly easy to control.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A beautiful bengal cat appeared very recently in my neighborhood near Davis. It seems unusual for such a fancy, fancy cat to be out without a collar. Has anyone heard of one missing?

I've checked the pets tag - didn't see anything quite relevant. Does anybody here know somebody who would come to my residence once every week or two and trim my cat's claws? I've got a domestic short-hair who is prone to scratching and doesn't like his paws handled and I also have new furniture - this will not do and it would really be unreasonably traumatic to have to take him somewhere each time his claws needed trimming.

Thanks,
Ben

Just got a new cat but, perhaps as part of an elaborate scheme to get me to spend lots of money, it turns out she's allergic to most litter and needs a particular litterbox/litter combo. As a result, I have a brand-new hooded corner litterbox, as seen here, for anyone who wants it. If you threw a pillow in instead, it would also make a nice cat/small dog cave.

It cost me $40 <2 wks ago, so if you'd like to throw in a few bucks for it, I wouldn't say no. Regardless, if it doesn't get claimed by Monday night, it'll be out on the curb, so payment is accepted but not required.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. I didn't see anything against this type of post in the rules, but if it's not allowed, mods, feel free to delete!

Basically, I'm a part-time nanny in the Somerville/Medford area, and I'm trying to expand my services. I currently work for a lovely family I found on care.com; however, I'm only working part time and I need to supplement my income. So if you need (or have friends who need) a weekend/date night sitter, please contact me! I can give you a full list of credentials upon contact, but the short of it is that I am a 29 y/o female, in graduate school, with three years of previous experience, plus the aforementioned nannying job. And yes, I am CPR/First-Aid trained and certified. So if you are planning to hit some holiday parties, or just want to get out on a weekend, and need someone to watch the kids, I'm your girl.

Additionally, I also have experience in pet-sitting and dog-walking, so if anyone is looking for either a regular or one-time pet sitter (need someone to feed your pets while you take a holiday vacation?) don't hesitate to contact me as well! Comment or PM me here for more information/email.

Thanks!

There has been a sweet cat visitor in our yard all morning (Park Ave and Chandler - near Somerville library branch) - a very small calico brown/orange calico cat with white paws.  She (?) has on 2 collars - one beige and one pink - but no tags with IDs or numbers.  She is very sweet but seems very hungry and lost.  Does anyone recognize this cat and know who it belongs too?
