Has anyone had any success getting streetlights fixed in Davis Square? I called two years ago about a streetlight on Chester and Herbert and nothing got done. I called 311 today; we'll see. I have heard anecdotally that NStar runs the streetlights in the city, EXCEPT for the ones in Davis Square. I'm not sure if that's true, or whether it should matter.

Incidentally, if the the streetlight in question were simply out, I wouldn't care because there is another streetlight on the same corner. However, this particular streetlight blinks -- maybe 30 seconds on, then 30 seconds off, repeat. It does not appear to be street level motion that governs the blinking. That's just not right.

It is Nstar's responsibility to replace bulbs and maintain the street lights. It is the city's responsibility to notify Nstar when the city notices a light out or when a citizen calls the city about a light out. Having said that, I had a light out in from of my building for about 4 months. It took countless calls to the city and Nstar to finally get it fixed. After many calls A supervisor at the Somerville DPW finally wrote a harsh letter to an Nstar public relations person about the lack of service... That finally did the trick.

One thing I learned was all light poles have a numbered tag on them. It helps eliminate confusion if when you call the city you have the pole tag number.

good luck.

LJ doesn't provide the ability to select from a list of tags on the Post an Entry page. If it did, I'd certainly enable it here. Instead, click on the "Tag" button after posting; that will give you the list to select from.

You can edit a post at any time, not just after someone adds comments.

At the top of this post is a whole row of little square buttons. The one with the blue pencil is for editing your post. The one that says "TAG" (maybe in unreadably small type) lets you add tags.

There isn't any such thing as replying to a post privately. All comments are public.

You can edit a post at any time. You do not need to wait for other people to comment on it.

If you're on the [livejournal.com profile] davis_square page, click on the "Leave a comment" link under your post. Then you can edit the post or add tags.

Or you can read the post from your friends page, where you should see "Edit Entry" and "Edit Tags" links below your post.

Whoa. I never even noticed the little "Tag" button. The type is way too tiny to stick out obviously.

I recommend reading through the FAQ's to help you get used to how to do things on here. http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml
They are not perfect, and they don't cover everything, but it should at least give you a good start on understanding how to navigate LJ. (remember to click on "read more" in most of the answer pages to get a more detailed explanation).
welcome :)

I think I'll print that out and post it in my car. It speaks volumes for our causes here as well. Barbara A, I will think about your Canada Goose friend.

I would contact your ward alderman (Gewirtz possibly, depending on where you live). All it should take is a board order to DPW or NSTAR, whomever is responsible.
