transcendental meditation

Hey all, so my head is filled with too much stuff these days and I just can't get enough sleep, I'm tense all the time (according to my wife) and I just need to calm down! 

Any idea if there's a TM center around Davis?  I need peace!

well I have 2 friends that have had good luck using the techniques that TM teaches, and one of those friends used to be totally off the wall ...

I guess I'm more interested in hearing other people's experiences with different meditation styles. I'm looking for something local, works around a busy schedule and doesn't require tons of $$$ and ultimately, something that works if you're dedicated to it.

I'm not really interested in martial arts or acupuncture, massage -- well, who doesn't like a good massage.. and of course standard western therapy, well, that's worked well for me for other issues, but I want to learn techniques to calm myself.

Alas, I'm rather limited in my knowledge of different types of meditation practices. Zen may or may not be for you: it is not a practice that will give you anything, but rather, it is a practice that is focused on starving off the ego. It can be incredibly boring and generally contrary to the "give me what works!" mindset.

Perhaps someone else knows a bit more about other traditions and can help more!
