Hey all, so my head is filled with too much stuff these days and I just can't get enough sleep, I'm tense all the time (according to my wife) and I just need to calm down!

Any idea if there's a TM center around Davis?  I need peace!

Thanks

ps: I couldn't find this topic via tags, nor through ljfind..

TM = transcendental meditation?

That's fairly specific, and I am uncertain as to whether any exist in the area. There are a number of Zen groups of varying traditions, good martial arts dojo, acupuncturists, massage artists, and Western style psychoanalysts about, however.

Are you decided on TM?

Alas, I'm rather limited in my knowledge of different types of meditation practices. Zen may or may not be for you: it is not a practice that will give you anything, but rather, it is a practice that is focused on starving off the ego. It can be incredibly boring and generally contrary to the "give me what works!" mindset.

Perhaps someone else knows a bit more about other traditions and can help more!

not TM, but...

if you're into meditation, I cannot highly enough recommend Cambridge Insight Meditation Center at 331 Broadway in Cambridge (10 minute walk from Central or on 83 bus from Porter/Mass Ave). Check out their website: www.cimc.info - there is a drop in class today from 6-7.

Good luck finding peace!!

We don't have a tag for this specifically, but it's possible some of the yoga postings are of use.

Well since Cambridge Insight came up, I'm going to take this an a-ok to post non-Davis sources-

There is an open house at the Shambhala Meditation Center (of which I am a member) every Wednesday at 7. Meditation instruction is offered free of charge. If you're more interested in a longer workshop, the Turning the Mind Into an Ally class is excellent. It's offered every two or three months.

Here's an earlier post about meditation. I found it under the "classes" tag while looking for something else entirely.

Om City Yoga has started having beginning meditation classes recently. I've only taken yoga there, but Dee often works bits of meditation into the yoga classes, and I think a meditation class with her would be great (too bad I'm always busy on Wednesdays!)
