I need to book a home inspection for thursday and the guy i usually recommend is booked up. what home inspector have you used that you would recommend again?
Harold Popp was recommended to us as "the best building inspector on the planet". He was indeed awesome. He's been an inspector for decades, and has also done much work as a building contractor. Extremely knowledgeable about signs of potential problems and building practices in the area. He taught us a lot as we went along about how to understand the house, why things were probably done the way they'd been done, and things we can do to fix or prevent problems should we decide to buy it. Friendly, ethical, meticulous.
The first two houses we put offers on turned out on inspection to require too much in the way of non-deferrable repairs for us to afford to occupy them. We walked away from both and considered the money for the inspection very well spent just for enabling us to make the right decision.
We learned so much by accompanying Harold on those two that we did a vastly better job inspecting subsequent candidates ourselves, and when we had him inspect a third house last month it was a winner!
All that said, if you have to get a house inspected with less than 24 hours' notice, then you're probably looking for an unpopular inspector rather than a popular one.

I WANT a good inspector--the fact that it's short notice is just a pain in the butt. Most of the good ones are all booked up. The house is sound so I'm not really worried, but the inspection has to be done nonetheless.
Thanks for your recommendation, and congrats on your new house! :)
I was quite happy with Mark George from Home Inspection Associates. Googling finds (978) 689-8424 as a phone # for him. I can go digging and pull the file tomorrow if that's not current.
