Is there a local institution that will do mass document shredding/destruction? My decent credit score has earned me approximately 2 prescreened credit offer letters per postal day for the past few years.

Sounds like a worthwhile service, so please post anything you find out. But meanwhile, I just pitch that stuff in the recycling.

i imagine though this stuff has his cc# all over it, and that's why he hasn't just tossed it out.

Those offers don't usually have your CC # on them, but they can be used by the unscrupulous to get you new credit and steal the card from your mailbox.

If it's only a couple a day, get a home shreader at Staples. I'm not sure any of the shredding businesses are affordable to individuals.

I'm afraid if I call them to request removal from their lists, they'd say oh, sir, we had no intention of soliciting your kind.

opting out from the credit agencies works

I did it it about 10 years ago (it may take several iterations to reiterate "permanent, please", since the default is for two years). I have very good credit, but get almost no CC offers.

Um, this may be dumb, but... why not just buy a shredder?

I bought a shredder for $60 at Staples back in January, took a couple hours to get caught up on the crap, and after that it wasn't a problem. If you work for a company that has bins for privacy you might discreetly dump it in there, but remember yr company pays by the pound for it.

I just wanted you to know tht their our affordable shredding options that you can check out.
Companies will come to you and shred up to 15 boxes woth of material for around $100.00 all depending in what area of the nation you live in it could be much cheeper.
Their our always city sponsored shreding events where for little or no charge you may bring material to a mobile shrd truck and they will shred it there. we do at least 10 of these year.
You might find a plant based operation like mineand if you bring it to us we will shred for $3.00 a standard size file box worth of material.
Identity theives can take your creit card offers and change the address on them and fill them out, they will receive a card in your name at their address and by the time you figure out what is goin on you have racked up thousand of dollars worth of debt. If you our goin to throw out those cc car offers at least rip them up first.
