Unclaimed bike auction?

Many years ago, around 1996, I went to a police auction in Somerville where they auctioned off stolen bikes that had never been reclaimed - does anyone know anything about this, if they still do this? Thanks!

(I'm looking for a cheap 3-speed bike to noodle around the neighborhood on).

I'll have to find the exact address. There is a guy in my neighborhood who fixes up old bikes and sells them. Reasonable price ranges too. I asked him what he charges and he quoted me 35 to 40 dollars for a bike. I know he's on Hanson St in Somerville. Not hard to miss as there yard is the only one filled with bikes.

Oh, are you doing the Pan-Mass Challenge? I'm doing the shortest route (Wellesley-Bourne, 89 miles, 1 day) -- the 2-day rides scare me ;).
