After a recent flood, I'm interested in moving the items in my basement (all, thankfully, in protective plastic bins) up off the ground an inch or so. Does anyone know where in or around Davis Square I might find wooden pallets? I know stores and warehouses often sell (or simply give away) pallets. Does anyone know of any in Davis Square (or one of the surrounding neighborhoods) that are willing to do so?

Hmmm... My only thought is Home Depot, although any large store (even Shaws or Foodmaster) might have them. I am not sure whether they dispose of them or recycle them or what, but it may be worth an ask.

Since you have your stuff in plastic bins already, may I ask why you also want to put them up on pallets?
We have a similar occasional problem with flooding, but other than the thought of the plastic bins bobbing around if it gets really deep (which hasn't happened, AFAIK), I've always figured waterproof-ness was good enough. Now you have me worried.

Don't know about the original poster, but the bottoms of my plastic bins tend to get very gross and slimy if they're sitting directly on the floor. If they're off the floor a bit, they dry out better and don't get as gross. The contents are still fine though.

We have a couple at the Somerville Theatre that we don't need if you want to have them; they are the traditional wooden kind, probably about 3x3. Also have smaller plastic Pepsi flats that can be used for the same purpose if you want some of those.

I've seen signs up at Pemberton Farms saying they have free pallets available. I'd check there first.

Yes, they have been trying to give those away for a while. There are still a whole bunch in the back of their lot, against the fence.
