Where in or near the square can I get fried chicken? I've got a MAJOR craving.

It's not anywhere near the square, but the only acceptable answer for a major fried chicken craving is Popeye's.

There's one over near Fenway.

Trust me, it's worth the trip!

PS- Get the "spicy" when they ask. When they say "spice" they mean "flavor"

there's a KFC Bell on Broadway in Winter Hill, and another on Hampshire St in Inman Square.

I miss the Popeye's that used to be in Porter Square.

There was a Popeyes in Porter Square?! And it's gone? WAAAAAAAA!

When Wabbit and I go to New York on the Fung Wah, it lets off right smack next to a Popeye's in Chinatown. It's part of the reason we go.

Wings Over Somerville delivers to Davis and they're delicious. Not sure if it's what you're looking for though.

+1 Wings over Somerville. They're awesome. Just triple check your order.

The best fried chicken establishment in the boston metro area is easily the Hen House in Dorchester (might be roxbury).

Their "garlic parmesan" wings are basically fried chicken with a bit of garlic. I'm not sure where the parm comes in.

By far, the best fried chicken in the area is at Coast Cafe in Cambridge.

Trust me. Go there.

I really like the fried chicken at Redbones. I don't know if it was a once a week special or if they have it all the time. But it's god old fashioned country fried chicken that you can get with (or without) white gravy.

The Plough & Stars (Between Harvard and Central) has fried chicken night every Sunday that is pretty damned good. They also have catfish.

The best southern-style fried chicken I've ever had in this area was near Central Sq (just a few T stops!), at Coast Cafe:

Doesn't taste gross and oily, just crisp and juicy! Mmmmmm....

what ever happened with the former kfc bell in porter square that was supposed to re-open as a 'comfort food' restaurant?

It remains unopened. I pass it every day, wondering.

It may be waiting for the Cola Wars to end so it can re-open as a hoity toity Taco Bell when Sly Stallone gets unfrozen in the future.

There is some amazingly good fried chicken at.... Blue Fin. Yes, Blue Fin, the fancier Japanese restaurant in the Porter Exchange (in the back). I was shocked by how good it was. And it's not particularly expensive, either, for the quantity you get. Definitely worth your consideration.

Surprisingly good chicken at Summer Shack. Take the T to Alewife.

I don't care for the chix at Coast. The meat patties are another story entirely.

Why don't you like it? Just curious... I mean, it's not crazy-flavorful and greasy goodness like some places, but it definitely represents that whole "frying to lock in natural goodness" that Southerners bust out for those deep-fried Thanksgiving turkeys, etc.

Haha, you sound like me and my friends last week in Central Square. I was ready to kill a man if it could've some how scored me some actual fried chicken. Looks like a lot of people have chimed in here, so all I have to say is that if someone told you they got their fried chicken at Mass Chicken, they're not eating fried chicken. :'(
(It's rotisserie.)
