Jul. 24th, 2009 06:10 pmDoes anyone know of a place in the Boston/Somerville area where I might be able to find a 15,000 rpm internal SAS hard disk between now and Monday morning? I'm in one of those situations where I need this part and I cannot wait for it to be delivered by mail order.
Any suggestions? Help would be much appreciated.
Places I've already tried include:
-Micro Center in Cambridge (I don't think they even knew what I was talking about)
-Micro Computers in Medford
-Micro Northeast in Woburn (they're not open, even though they might well have what I'm looking for)
Thank you greatly in advance!

Date: 2009-07-24 10:51 pm (UTC)If you run hardware for which replacement parts are not commonly available through ordinary consumer retail channels, and you need short turnaround time on replacement parts, you should probably have a service contract for the equipment. The kind of thing where the manufacturer will next-day-air service parts to your location, and/or they'll dispatch a field-service engineer to install the part.
Your other possible option, if the hardware in question is still under warranty, is to call the manufacturer and ask if they have any kind of expedited delivery for a replacement drive. Again, expedited service will likely cost ya.
Good luck.

Go down the left hand column, until you find rotational speed, click on '15,000', and it will show that you have 7 option, from 36 to 450 GB.
Hope that helps.

I hate it when RAIDs degrade

Anything that needs to be replaced this quickly when it goes belly up, is worth the spending to have a cold-swap spare on hand.
(Yes, this does not guarantee that the cold-swap will be *good* when you try to use it, but that's more likely than that the empty shelf-space will be usable in its place...)
