I finally had a chance to check out the newish Tibetan restaurant Davis Square, Marisa on Elm (next door to Cristos Pizza). The staff were incredibly pleasant and the food was reasonably priced ($42 for two people, including appetizers, entrees, one shared side, and beverages) and really delicious... I may become a regular. There is plenty of vegetarian food as well as meat dishes, ranging from traditional asian fare to spicy and unusual - something for everyone. I recommend you give it a try if you're looking for something new in the neighborhood! There are some take-out menus in a bin outside the restaurant.

To be totally honest, I looked at their menu and thought it seemed expensive for what you're getting. If I'm going to spend upwards of $10 an entree, I'd probably go to Namaskar across the street. Which is too bad, 'cause I was looking forward to seeing Marisa open. Was there anything about the food at there that made it seem especially memorable?

$42 for two people? That's outrageous! Seriously.

How does it compare to House of Tibet in Teele?

I thought Marisa's (Marta's) on Elm was pretty good & fairly priced.
Does anyone know anything about the new place, SAUCE, that is going in on Highland. Also....do you know how I would post a new topic??
I can't quite figure out how to do that. DOH!
Thanks.

I ate at Marisa's, and the food was delicious. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it wasn't over-priced either. Their dumplings are some of the best I ever tasted. Try them for lunch, I think they have special lunch prices.

Oh, and Sauce is owned by the Joshua Tree- I would expect something similar, but may be a little more upscale.

for what certainly looks like crappy ambience may be a bit much. unless you had tons of drinks.
although appetizers too? sounds about moderate i suppose.

Diva, in my opinion, BLOWS. It is so overrated. I defended Davis on here against what i mistakenly thought was a former new yorker making fun of it. Well i will always defend Davis and its places, but i must admit that my time in nyc (esp 6th st) makes me appalled at overpriced indian type food.

Diva's staff are not very professional, the food is over-priced by about $4-$6 per entre (depending on how GOOD you actually think their food to be, i find it extremely average), and people flock there because whoever designed the place had a nice eye for style to some degree.

What's my point? stay outta my booze!

No, seriously, i just had to voice my never ending surprise that people love diva. completely overrated.

what's people's take on Gargoyle's? I love sitting at the bar (best baretenders in the square along with redbones) and the rice fries, but peeps find them over priced too?

What do you think of Namaskar?

I wasn't wowed by the entrees when I went there, but I'm looking forward to sitting in there with a mug of tea and a basket of super-fresh flatbread on a snowy afternoon.

House of Tibet is the tops. Better prices, more downhome attitude, friendly service, and yes ... fab tenchur [spicy] momos!

It's "Martsa on Elm" isn't it?

In any event, I concur, and can get out far under $42 for 2. The shamday is wonderful, the veggie momos are great, and the "ice coffees" -- actually European-style Cafe Frappes -- are to die for.

"martsa's on elm" is actually the name, not "martsa" nor "marisa". :) (martsa is the family's surname.)

it is run by the same people who owned the tibetan restaurant in harvard several years ago. the mother of one of them is the owner of the tibetan shop by porter, as well.
