I *am* on the flight path, and I mostly clearly did hear it.

You want to complain about 10 PM flyovers? I'll help. I'll support legislation to prevent airlines (primarily NYC shuttle flights) flying thirty year old airplanes. Newer planes are pretty damned quiet.

But airplane noise in general (and in advance) when you live five miles from the airport? Move to Medfield already, I hope you enjoy driving everywhere.

Ok point taken, but 9 days of winds seemed to justify it.

My daughter was woken up after 10 PM last night by a low flyer. People in other areas like Southie bought their houses knowing full well about the plane noise. Its different when the FAA decides to suddenly bombard the most dense neighborhoods in the country with noise. Many of these houses have no insulation and very old glass windows that do very little for soundproofing.

I may well be missing something, but my thought is that the airport is virtually surrounded by densely populated land, and that the planes are gonna be flying over _somebody's_ house. All you can do is move the hassle around, which, unless the noise causes you significantly more discomfort than it would the next person, seems dodgy.

For myself, I like hearing jet noise. It reminds me that we still have them, among other things. Er... I know this is idiosyncratic, I wouldn't ask anyone else to feel that way.

YOu are missing a few points:
1. Other neighborhood have had this noise for many many years. people who moved there knew very well what they were moving into, and their homes are soundproofed.

2. The airport is not surrounded by populated land - unless you include the fish in the Atlantic

3. Runway 33L was only supposed to be used for 6% of flights but is now used for close to 20%. MassPort didn't stick to their commitment which is why Medford and Somerville are suing them.

I get woken up more often by big tanker trucks/tractor trailers, people with their bass/radio blasting and emergency vehicles than by airplanes going overhead. For the most part, all of the aforementioned are tuned out because it's really not worth getting stressed out over. Get a white noise machine or earplugs for at night or if it's during the day, turn up the volume. And for the record I live on the flight path. If you find airplanes annoying, try living next to the commuter rail tracks, THAT is annoying, and yet still able to be tuned out after a while.

I can understand, even if I don't agree with, the complaints when the winds are *different* than those they built the runway to accommodate. But complaining about them using it as intended, declared, and appropriate just seems... wrong.
