New Restaurant Coming to Ball Sq -- Yak & Yeti

This is the space formerly occupied by the Chinese restaurant right next to True Grounds. They already have signs up, but the interior is not even close to being ready. They advertise that they will serve Nepali & Indian food. I assume the name is not reflective of the menu, though I give them points for originality and use of one of the few references that has you thinking "Nepal" right away.

Back in California, I used to frequent a Nepalese restaurant called Annapurna (which also evokes Nepal right away) but none of the local places I've tried have compared. Damn, I miss that place.

I will maintain cautious optimism. A name like Yak & Yeti makes me think it's more likely to be hipster and/or Americanized.

Here's a video that Channel 5 did on the future of Ball/Magoun Squares with the arrival of the Green Line (sometime before I'm put in old folks home). You'll notice one of the thriving "Somerville" neighborhoods they show a little footage of is Kendall Sq.

I am thrilled to hear about the new restaurant! I wish you shared some pics with the place even if it's not ready for guests yet. If it's a Nepali and Indian food restaurant they must be pretty special, love that food and that's because it's cooked with specific restaurant equipment and supplies (http://www.superprod.com/category/bar.do), that's what makes it unique and that's why you can't cook it at home even if you have the right ingredients.
