My car's been acting up, needs to get its belts checked--can anyone recommend a garage in the Somerville area (even better if it's in Winter Hill)? A place that's affordable but also honest and not going to fleece me because I'm a woman who presumably doesn't know any better?

if interested, email me and come get it. porter/davis square area.

1. CapSure PCMCI video capture card. for Zoomed Video capable laptop running Windows 95 or MacOS 8/9. (packaging says PowerBook 3400 and more recent. I used it with a PowerBook G3"Wallstreet" model.) takes S-Video or standard RCA video connector input.

2. Adaptec 2940 LVD SCSI card, for Mac only. for PCI power macs running MacOS 8 or 9. not OSX compatible! no idea if it works with beige G3s -- it was designed in the era of the 7200/7500/7600/8500/9500/8600/9600 macs. might work in a 4400, 6400, or 6500. if you have no idea what i'm talking about, you probably don't want this card.
(you may be able to flash this card to work with a PC, but i can't tell you how. i've heard of PC cards being flashed for Mac, so it seems possible to go the other way.)

3. i just discovered that i have an Adaptec 29160N card available.

4. Firewire2Go card that provides a firewire port for your laptop via the PC Card slot. this is plug-n-play on a powerbook. free to first taker to come get it.

5. ADB Addesso Tru-Form natural keyboard (this is the company that Microsoft copied their "natural keyboard" design from) with that weird eraser nub mouse control. this is the older model that can tilt up in the front if needed. works only with Macs with ADB ports -- everything listed above, plus all other pre-USB Macs.

free to a good home: Power Mac 8500

this was my first desktop mac, i've had it since 1996, when i paid a mere $3700 for it (educational discount, w00t!). over the years its been a good desktop and a reliable internet server, and it has run System 7.5, MacOS 8 & 9, several version of BeOS and a couple Linux distributions.

it includes an Adaptec 2940 LVD SCSI card, ATI Rage 128 video card, and a 10/100 ethernet card. it has a 233 MHz 604e processor (upgraded from its original 150 MHz). it will take a G4 upgrade and can run Mac OS X (all versions) using Sonnet's PCI Mac OS X Upgrade Software.

it currently has no hard drive installed, and i'm not sure how much RAM is in there -- i think i scavanged it for RAM a couple years ago. i can see two DIMMs, so i think it either has 16 meg or 128 meg. i have some drive trays for it, and i think i have both some SCSI-2 and LVD drives you're welcome to have for it.

come and get it. Davis/Porter Square area.
