...because The Tuna Helpers are of the same ilk, and sure to attract the same type of audience (note to those interested in checking out new bands, and needing a comparison to existing ones they're familiar with).

title or description

http://www.thetunahelpers.org is the official website. They are a group from Austin, TX - and we're bringing them up here next Sunday, June 19th to play at The Skybar in Somerville (yeah, that newly-renovated venue with FREE on-street parking that's practically walking-distance from the Porter Sq. T stop on the Red Line).

Opening for The Tuna Helpers will be local legends The Sob Sisters, a trio consisting of Karen, Renée & Ms. Kitty Heels. As denoted on their official website, http://www.sobsisters.com, "their repertoire includes many of the popular fashions and tunes of the Roaring 20's, and plenty of giggling".

Turkish Queen (http://www.turkish-queen.com), an experimental duo out of Boston that has garnered quite a following with their intense, atmospheric performances at such noted venues as The Middle East, TT the Bear's Place, the Boston Center for the Arts, the Zeitgeist Gallery, Pan 9, and O'Brien's Pub, has been added to this bill as well.

Pamela Martinez - http://www.pamelamartinez.com - is sure to delight the audience with her phenomenal performance. Originally from Texas herself, Pamela is an accomplished vocalist and violinist offering a unique style of delivery unrivaled in the Boston area.

Here's the official flyer for that show:

Great events for a "girls' night out"...or a "boys night out"...or "independent band supporters night out" :)

(Perhaps only pertinent to [livejournal.com profile] diesel_cafe, but I think it's of enough more general use to be worth posting here.)

Earlier this week I saw an altercation, fortunately with a peaceful ending, at the Diesel, the gist of which was: he was walking towards the front with her laptop and backpack; she stopped him and took it back; he said his girlfriend asked him to get her stuff from the table in the back and he'd thought this was it; she told him he was wrong.

Truth or lie, accident or theivery, I don't know or care, but I do want to remind people: watch your stuff. If someone had taken the stuff intentionally, and if the owner had happened to be in the bathroom at the time, the person could have easily left with no one the wiser. (Or if someone had simply taken the laptop and put it into their own bag, they could have walked right past the owner without her noticing.)

I firmly believe that Davis is a law-abiding and friendly place whose occupants would never steal; but accidents happen, and miscreants may come in from Harvard or Porter Squares, which are as everyone knows populated entirely by criminals who put iocane powder into people's coffee.

Anyway, just a reminder.

I've heard that people can volunteer at the music concers at the Somerville Theater, and able to see the shows for free. Who do I contact to add my name to the volunteer list?
