billharnois.livejournal.comDoes anyone know what happened to the Taco Bell / KFC on Mass Ave? It's all boarded up. It was a pretty gross place, but the only close TBell around.
turil.livejournal.comWhole Foods just took over the Wild Oats chain of health food stores. They say they will be closing the stores that are underperforming or that are very close to other Whole Foods stores. I have no idea if the Wild Oats back on Rt 16 (just behind Tufts, and just over the border into Medford) is an underperfoming one or may be deemed too close to the Fresh Pond store, but if it does close, that may be an interesting location to put a Trader Joes or maybe a big food coop...
It's currently not that easy to get to from Davis, since there are no public buses that run from Davis to Tufts, but it's within walking distance of Teele Square (about a mile), and is far closer to Davis than any other decent sized whole foods grocery stores.
Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it, since it might effect some Davis folks.

Tickets for not Shoveling
Feb. 22nd, 2007 01:25 pmchenoameg.livejournal.comAs I walked along the shady side of Highland Ave this afternoon I noticed that several houses had white envelopes taped to their doors. They were all houses that had made no apparent attempt to clear, salt, or sand their sidewalks.
Anyone know what the cost of such a tickets is? I wasn't nosy enough to go up to one of the doors and look.

great cleaning lady opportunity
Feb. 22nd, 2007 04:11 pmbillharnois.livejournal.comI'm trying to be a bit more frugal these days, and I decided to fire my cleaning lady. Now I feel really guilty. She was really great, dependable and there were no problems. Our place is 1260 sq ft, and she cleaned every other week. This included washing the entire bathroom, cleaning all of the floors, counter tops, dishes, dusting and organizing clutter. The cost was $50 each time, and I considered it a really good deal. Let me know if anyone is interested in this contact. You'll be a great help to her, and my peace of mind.
