Does anyone know of any online communities where people get together to talk about local environmental topics/issues/initiatives?

We at Magpie are looking to drum up a few more participants for an eco-friendly craft fair in Union Square Somerville next month. We're looking not only for crafters and artists but local non-profits who might want to get the word out about their cause. We have a great lineup of participants so far but are looking to fill a few more spaces.

We'd also welcome suggestions right in this thread. Or you can email us at recraft{at}magpie-store{dot}com.

Somerville-based artist/crafters/non-profit suggestions would be most truly welcomed!

Thanks!

My kitty recently went missing on Pearson Ave in Somerville.  His name is Tux.  He is a black and white kitty, possibly with an infected cut above his right eye.  He was spotted last night under a car around the vicinity of 72-86 Pearson.  Rumor has it, he's feeling a little skittish. I assure you he is the nicest thing you'll ever meet, so if you see him, GET HIM!  I miss him and need to take him to the vet.  Please contact me if you find him and I'll come right over.  Thank you so much for your help!

My landlord has a Jacuzzi outdoor hot tub thing in our yard that he has not used (it's there from the previous owner) and he wants to give it away.

Details:
Jacuzzi brand, 6ftx6ft
Used, will probably need some repair work (at least a motor).
Must come pick it up.  (Ball Square area)

The thing is big, you're gonna need a pickup or something to get it,
BUT,
if this sounds good to you, and you want a FREE hot tub to tinker with, it's yours if you come pick it up!

If you're interested, call George at 617-921-1040.

(and yes, I know, post to craigslist too, just figured I'd see if anyone here wants it first.)

Hi all,

Just wanted to draw Davis Sq artists' attention to a special collaboration between the T, Tufts University, and the City.  We're promoting a project to bring new community art into the Davis Square T station.  The new art installments will be 4'x4', and will be reflective of the spirit and vibrancy of the City of Somerville, the Tufts community, and the linkages between them.

We're putting out a call to local artists to submit their work for consideration. There is a $100 honorarium for selected pieces.  The deadline for submission is September 14th.

Please click here to read more specifics about the proposal and to download the Call to Artists: http://www.somervillema.gov/spotlight.cfm?id=34 . Flyers and more information will also be available at ArtBeast this weekend.

Thanks!

Hi All,

Does anyone in the Davis Square area want to get together and play Euchre on a regular basis?

hello davis square-ites,
i know this is not necessarily about davis square, but i trust your advice over the boston communities:

my mom is coming to town for a technology/education conference and i want to take her and her colleagues (youngish-baby boomers) out for a night of dining and dancing- this would be easy for me to arrange if they were visiting somerville, but they are being dropped off near faneuil hall on wednesday evening and will not have their own forms of transportation. this is not an area that i ever frequent, and i need some help.

are there any places that feature live music, like folksy irish or salsa stuff? glowing restaurant reviews would also be very welcome!

Outside of 13 Hawthorne Street.

They're not the best speakers in the world, even though there's a sub-woofer. The sound is pretty terrible. Still -- free speakers...and they are still better than my laptop's speakers.

Can anyone suggest a place around here to get a muffler done (VW) sans scam and run around?

I received this notice with a request to "circulate widely", so here it is:

Sick and tired of the war, the White House war-mongers, and fed up with a Congressional "opposition" that refuses to take these war-criminals down (via impeachment), even when a majority of Americans want them to?!

Please join the Davis Square End the War Committee in Somerville, in the heart of Davis Square, Monday July 23rd for a rush-hour rally /"Honk-Out" as we demand that Congress:

"Impeach the War Criminals and End the War, Now!"

Monday, July 23rd.
approximately 5-7pm (or until the end of rush-hour)
in the heart of Davis Square, accross from the Somerville Theatre
