Is there a towing company in the area that you'd recommend? I know I could call AAA, but if I understand correctly they will just tow me to the nearest garage. I want to go to a garage of my choosing, a little farther away. Any advice?

TIA!

A word of warning, my car was stolen sometime this morning before 6:00AM from Whipple Street, where Highland and Willow intersect.

If anyone has seen a black Hyundai Elantra with Maryland Tags any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Davis Square! Did you know that over 40% of Somerville residents are between the ages of 21-35? I am a member of the City's Young Somerville Advisory Group and would like to invite you to participate in an upcoming forum on the State of Young Somerville. Please join us for food, drinks, and a lively discourse at the Somerville Theater on Monday, October 15th at 7:00 pm.

Monday, October 15th

7:00 pm at the Somerville Theater

Food! Drinks! Meet your neighbors!

Monday, October 15, Mayor Curtatone and the Young Somerville Advisory Group will be hosting the first-ever State of Young Somerville Address – an event focused on key issues identified by city residents aged 21-35.

The Address will feature – among other topics – an overview of the City’s transportation and development projects, affordable housing opportunities, and quality of life initiatives, as well as an introduction to the local school system.

In addition to a presentation by the Mayor, attendees will be able to ask questions, register portable electronics with the Somerville Police, and meet City department heads and project managers. Come hear about the Mayor’s vision and provide feedback on how Somerville can continue to be a great place for young people to live, work, and play!

Ample time will be provided for networking and partaking of food and drink offered by the Somerville Theatre. For more information, please contact the City’s Constituent Service hotline at 311 or (617) 666-3311 from outside of Somerville. Somerville Rocks!

If you can not attend the event, but would like to receive updates on cultural, civic, or social events related to Young Somerville, sign-up here to receive mailings: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/young-somerville/

I've been submitting to the local BostonNOW paper these last few months and they ran my little review of Sligo Pub in this morning's edition. Here's the original submission, before the editors censored my gritty description of the townies:

Get Your Dive On: Sligo Pub

You’ll either love Sligo or you’ll hate it. It’s somewhat creepy that this old-school bar exists in the middle of Davis Square, arguably the most yuppie place on earth, and perhaps that’s why it seems like such a refuge. This is not a hip rockabilly pretending-to-be-a-dive-bar, it’s the real deal. You’ll find a handful of aging townies drinking themselves to death between their insulin shots, and they’ll get the first service from the bartend, but they’ve earned it. If you want to go in solo, frontload the juke with Johnny Cash, and sigh into your three buck beer on a Monday afternoon, I highly recommend Sligo Pub, 237 Elm Street in Davis Square.

This is apparently where the XKCD meetup was a few weeks ago. To signup, go to the Slashdot link above, select MA from the search field, then select the first location and click Attend Party.

I've decided I'm sick of turning my compost with a trowel; it's a pain in the ass and it doesn't work very well. I want to buy the kind of barrel that is raised off the ground on a stand and turned with a handle, like a tumbler. But apparently nobody in the Boston area sells compost bins. I've tried Pemberton Farms, TAGS, Home Despot, Sears Home & Garden, Loews...nada. They're big and therefore expensive to ship; I just want to walk into a store and walk out with a compost bin. Any idea where I might be able to do this?

(Yes, I know the City of Somerville will sell me one, but it's just a big bin -- no turning.)
