I was going to just check see if there were any people in the area interested in playing chess, but I read that the Boylston Chess Club is in Davis - anyone a memeber/know if it would be way over my head? I'm not a beginner but definitely not advanced either, never played with clocks or tournaments etc. Just looking for some people to play now that my chess loving roommate is leaving the country. Just curious as to what the BCC is like, if it's for me, or if anyone else out there would potentially be interested in casual, anonymous chess.

Posting on behalf of my housemate:

My bike was stolen from the Davis Sq. T stop on the night of the 8th of October. The bike is a neon orange woman's style KONA mountain bike from around 1999/2000 (i think). It is in good condition, doesn't have a kickstand, a soft black seat, and has a rack grocery bag holder on the back. The bike was stolen with one of the bags from of the eleven 81 brand. The bag also had my helmet in it. If anyone finds the bike let me know!!!
My e-mail is roxane.sperber@tufts.edu

Any clues or tips on how to increase her chances of recovering the bike would be much appreciated. It's her only mode of transportation, unfortunately. (And since the mugging on our street a couple weeks ago, we've felt a lot safer biking home than walking home alone.)

Due to overwhelming response regarding the Red Sox game, the State of Young Somerville event will be shifted up one hour – to 6:00 pm. If you are in Davis Square to watch the game, please stop by the Somerville Theatre for food and drinks and bring your questions for Department Heads & project managers at 6:00pm. Stay for the Mayor's address at 7:00 pm.

We are working on how to broadcast the game or at least provide updates throughout. We all love the Red Sox and hope fans will show they love the city too and take part in what we hope will be an annual event.

Thanks for all the great comments about The Connections Center when I last posted. We are continuing to work on a more detailed plan that we can present - your feedback is really helpful.

Due to a few considerations, we have decided to move the bowling party from this Sat. to November 3rd. from 5-8. I hope you can join us!  We will be having free bowling, pool and food -  and will be looking forward to meeting everyone in person for some fun....

:-)

(I will still be there Saturday with some friends, just in case anyone misses the changed date - stop by and say hi if you would like! )

I would like to get a new vanity, but I'm concerned about disposing of the old vanity. Somerville has a very picky rule about disposing of construction material (they sent us an angry letter for throwing out 1 roof shingle left over from an old job.) Combridge has a 1 toilet or 1 sink per week rule, but I can't find one for Somerville. All the services I can find either want to rent you a dumpster or have a minimum charge of ~$120. I've asked the DPW for suggestions, and they had no suggestions.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to dispose of these things? Some place I could take them (not that I look forward to transporting a old toilet in my car.) Surely there has to be some alternative.

Hiya!

My neighbor has placed a kitchen table and chairs out on the sidewalk. If your a fan of the 60s this is a great set.

Why she wont donate it to Goodwill I'll never figure out...

I was just on the MBTA website, and found a quick reference to a pilot program called T-Radio. It sounds for all the world like they're going to be pumping crap music and idiotic personalities into my daily commute. Plus, in the process probably drowning out the T musicians with "Boston-based celebrities and sports figures in 30 and 60-second segments designed for people on the go". I was pissed when I started seeing TV screens in the checkout lanes at Star Market, but now in one of the last audio-garbage free spaces in the city.

Now I haven't been commuting in the past couple of weeks, so I wasn't in any of the stations for the trial periods. Has anyone heard this yet. Is it really as horrible as I think its going to be. I'm really hoping that I'm reading the press release incorrectly, and this is actually a radio broadcast that I need to actually tune into on a portable radio, but it seems for all the world like its going to be pumped out of speakers.

If you see something, say something.
The T has a feedback form about the program on their website. Take 30 seconds and go express your opinion.
