Mass Farmers Markets is excited to announce the creation of a Davis Square "Friends of the Market" group for 2008! If you live, work, or shop in Davis Square, we'd love to have you join!

A Friends Group is a collection of private citizens who form a grassroots group that provides advice and volunteer/financial support to their local Farmers Market. A Friends group encourages businesses, civic organizations, and individuals to volunteer their time and talents to enhance their community Farmers Market. Friends will provide advocacy, promotion, and supplemental funds to make the market a local treasure.

If you think you may be interesting in attending a monthly meeting and helping out with various Davis Square farmers market promotions, please e-mail me at volunteer@massfarmersmarkets.org to get in the loop. This is a new venture, and we hope to expand the "Friends Group" to more markets in the future. There are no membership dues to become a Friend, just your enthusiasm and good ideas!

At this point we are just figuring out what the interest level is - so please contact me if you're interested! - and we'll announce a meeting place and time shortly.

Thanks very much,
Karin Turer

My husband and I just signed up for a CSA (aka farm share) through Parker farms, to be delivered to Davis Square weekly, and I was wondering if anyone else has used them, or if they use anyone else for a CSA, and what your experience has been like?

Is there anywhere around here to play recreational volleyball? I was hoping I could pretend to be a Tufts student and play there, but according to their website, they only have a men's volleyball club.

[livejournal.com profile] tt02144 keeps trying to post this without a cut and with all sorts of wacky formatting. Doing the favor of a repost that remains within the guidelines:

For all those interested in this, and other development projects, the following is a notice of an important public hearing to take place next week. It explains much about the history of the property at 131 - 135 Willow, and the development project proposed there:

Help the City of Somerville Serve You Better!

Become a MYSTERY CUSTOMER

What is a Mystery Customer?
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone is seeking volunteers for the “Mystery Customer” program - part of the ACE (Accurate Courteous and Easy) customer service initiative. Mystery Customers conduct real transactions with city departments, evaluate the quality of these transactions and provide the Mayor’s Office with valuable customer service feedback and suggestions for improvement.

The following are just a few examples of transactions that Mystery Customers can evaluate:

    · Obtaining a residential parking sticker at Traffic & Parking
    · Requesting a dog license at the City Clerk’s Office
    · Picking up a yard waste sticker from DPW
    · Calling in a request for information or service to 311
    · Signing up for a library card

If you are interested in serving as a Mystery Customer, please email efriedman@somervillema.gov so that we can send you information on city services and office locations as well as instructions on how to conduct evaluations.
Evaluations can be submitted using a simple online survey that takes just a few minutes to fill out. The identities of Mystery Customers will never be shared publicly or with the departments/ offices being evaluated.

Why Should *YOU* Be A Mystery Customer?
In addition to helping improve customer service for all Somerville residents, the first 25 Mystery Customers to complete three separate transactions will earn a “Somerville Rocks!” T-shirt, and all participants will be invited to a reception with the Mayor to discuss the results of this program.
