I found a lost dog recently while walking near Medford Square, and I took it home for the night. However, I haven't been able to find an animal shelter that is open, and most of them had voicemail messages indicating they weren't taking animals. I live near Ball Square, and my g/f is right in Davis. Can anyone recommend a good animal shelter nearby?

It's been awhile since someone posted on the frequent airplane noise over Davis Square (it acted as my wakeup call today).  I know the mayor and our alderman are pushing back against the FAA/Logan Airport but not much has changed yet.  They are encouraging residents to file complaints with the FAA.

It literally only takes 15-20 seconds to file an e-mail complaint with the FAA.  I'd really encourage you to save the following link as a favorite and send off a complaint a few times (or more) each month when you hear a lot of airplane noise (the FAA counts # of callers and complaints per caller on a monthly basis).

or call 617-561-3333 or Call 311 because the city of Somerville keep stats too.

Here's what Tom Champion says the city of Somerville is doing about the increase in airplane noise:

Here are the films playing this week at the Tufts Free Cinema (including one tonight). I'll make additions and changes as they happen across my desk.

There are lots more movies outside the Davis Square area for those willing to wander out, including Harvard, MIT, the BPL and BU.

See the complete Boston-area calendar online. There are two ways to access it:
• Directly through the link Boston Free Films
• Add the calendar through Google Calendar. Search for Joe’s BFF – Boston Free Films (any phrase should find it) and you can incorporate it with your own calendar.

The IFF Boston is coming to Davis Square for the 6th year and they are looking for volunteers to do all kinds of stuff -- ushering, driving, entertaining filmmakers, hanging out at the parties, brow beating crowds as they overload the Somerville Theater (and the Brattle and Coolidge Corner) and other fun activities you can add to your resume.

The films are showing April 23rd through 29th.  Most of the action is in Davis Square as the event takes over the Somerville Theater for the weekend.

Hello, I'm looking at condos in the Teele square area and am wondering if anybody on here can comment on how safe (or not) the neighborhood is.  Having lived in Davis for a while, I'm quite familiar with the Holland St stretch to Teele which seems quite safe but am wondering about Broadway in both directions - towards Tufts and towards Alewife Brook Pkwy. Thanks for any insight/experiences/thoughts.

Did you lose an iPod Nano today or recently in Davis Square? If so, I just might have found it. Send me a message with some distinguishing identifying info (case color and brand, songs, photos, etc.) and some contact info so I can get it back to you.

Update: Discovered the owner!

Hey everyone!!

Tonight at Orleans, come enjoy our Rock Band game night. The fun times begin at 9pm and go until at least 11. I'll be your lovely host.

We'll just be playing and having fun for the next few weeks (they're hosting Rock Band every other Sunday), and will be having tournaments for prizes in the future.

Come on by!

Ok, so now that, in theory, it will be getting warmer and all, I'm looking for a food share/local farmer who does drop offs in the area. I'd like a drop off in Porter or Davis. The household has 2 adults who would be in the farmshare (our other roommate is 22 and eats nothing but pasta).

At this point, I'd like to get an idea what's available; posting an idea what to expect would be great (cost per week, what typically came in a box, if they did anything interesting (in Toronto I got boxes from Foodshare, which included recipes and once gave me the Toronto Vegetarian Society cookbook), if they did anything special/react to their customers (I don't expect to need it, but in Atlanta after a friend broke her foot, her farmshare brought he stuff to her for 6 weeks because the drop spot was half a mile away)).

This has been brought up before here, but that was two years ago, so even just a note saying if any of those comments are still relevant or have changed would be good.
