In what is probably the biggest example of FAIL in recent memory, I can't organize the Good Time Emporium meetup about which I recently posted because the 27th is the most popular date, and it's just not possible for me to attend on that day. SO. [livejournal.com profile] thetathx1138 has graciously agreed to pickup where my FAIL left off, and I trust that he will not let you down. He and I visited the Emporium last Thursday and had a great time, spending entirely too much money on skeeball and other games that make you lust for tickets like a grizzled old chain-smoking lady at a casino lusts for money. Oh, and I found a leftover, untouched basket of buffalo wings and totally ate it. And the herpes it contained, probably. Seriously, WHY is this place closing again?

Here are the deets:

What: Good Time Emporium meetup for [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n, [livejournal.com profile] davis_square, [livejournal.com profile] somervillemass.
When: Friday, June 27th
Why: Because it's closing and cheap beer, meth addicts, and Buck Hunter is always a good combination.

For those who can't make it on Friday: I am planning to be there on Saturday and Sunday (gotta get it while I can), so if anyone wants to waste some money with me, let me know.

x-posted like whoa

Just a friendly reminder that the Burren meetup/ trivia night is tomorrow night. It starts at 7pm in the back room and then there will be trivia at 9pm.

Would anyone care to get a list going here about what local food businesses have special deals by day of the week for the budget conscious Davis Square-er? I'm happy to edit this post to include the options available.

For example:

Monday
--------------------
Mikes Restaurant: buy one large cheese pizza and get a second large cheese pizza for $2.99
9 Davis Square, Somerville (617) 628-2379

Tuesday

Hi all. Long-time listener, first-time caller.

I am moving to Davis Sq next month and am in the process of setting up my utilities.

Wondering if anyone has any insight into RCN vs Comcast for phone/cable/internet.

I saw some scattered posts on this topic in the archive, but none too recently.

Any help would be appreciated.

...and beware of Lake Cedar Street.

picture )

That's right near the intersection of Cedar St and Summer. (The people who got there before me said they called the city and the owners of the parked cars also showed up and moved them.)

Edited to add: Also, my roommate reports that Cherry St is a river and that Highland is also pretty bad (but not as bad as Cedar).

There are a few more pictures here but most of them are pretty bad quality.

Edited further to add: That picture was taken at about 5:45 (maybe a bit later). As of 7pm, the water appears to be pretty much gone and the road surface is visible again.

Speaking of things that go boom...

The City of Somerville starts its 4th of July celebration this week:

Thursday, June 26th

Beginning at 6:30 pm, the Independence Day celebration at Trum Field (on Broadway between Ball and Magoun Squares) will include musical entertainment and the largest fireworks display to date.

Fireworks are set to begin at approximately 9:15 pm.  The rain date for the event is Saturday, July 5th.
