Somerville is brimming with cool outdoor things to do this weekend ... provided that Hanna stays away.

Thursday, September 4: The final SomerMovie Fest film is Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious, starting at sundown in Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland St. T entrance in Davis Square.

Friday through Sunday, September 5-7: Somerville Greek Music and Food Festival at Dormition Church, 29 Central Street.

Friday and Saturday postponed to Sunday, September 5 and 6 7: Viva La Vinal Festival at the Community Growing Center, 22 Vinal Avenue, 4-10 pm each day. Lots of live bands, all free.

Friday, September 5: The first East Somerville International Movie Night is a Brazilian film, Deus é Brasileiro. A live Brazilian bossa nova band plays before the movie starts, so come early at 7 pm. 165 Broadway at Cross Street, behind the old fire station.

Saturday, September 6 Postponed to Sunday, September 7: The Rock & Roll Yard Sale takes place in Union Square plaza, from 3 to 7 pm. Live bands are playing here, too.

Saturday, September 6 Postponed to Sunday, September 7: Devil Music Ensemble provide a live accompaniment to a 1929 silent Chinese martial arts film, Red Heroine. Starts at 8 pm in Union Square plaza. Come for the yard sale and stay for the movie.

Saturday and Sunday, September 6-7: The Italian Festival of Saints Cosmas and Damian. OK, this one's actually a few feet across the city line, on Warren Street in East Cambridge. But it includes a huge Sunday afternoon parade down the side streets of both Somerville and Cambridge.

The Cambridge Depatment of Public Works has a great page with a comprehensive listing of companies and organizations in the area that take everything from electronics to styrofoam peanuts:

Our next meet-up is next week on Thursday the 11th at Joe Sent Me in North Cambridge (Mass Ave). Since I told the owners I would give them a rough estimate of the number of people by Monday, I'm going to post the poll now.

BTW, there is a facebook event for this, and you are welcome to RSVP there :)

For many years JSM was my near daily regular bar. So I'd love to see a big group attend. As usual, it starts at 7pm and there will be free stuff.

We made the Journal -- at least, the online edition (so far):

Davis Square online community raises $1,350 for the Somerville Homeless Coalition

The article also has a photo of "Jean, Drew, Matt, Brian, Ron, Raya, and Kathryn".

Just a note that last night around 12:15 there was someone breaking a bike lock with a brick along the side of the Davis T stop (the wall facing the Theater/Ice Cream window). A passerby and I made eye contact and processed this activity....the suspect then noticed our attention and took off in the direction of the bike path, away from Holland Street. He didn't seem to have anything with him as he ran.

The passerby I was standing with did call the police and give a description of the person. He also looked at the bike and said it was a really expensive bike, and it appears to have actaully been damaged a bit from the banging, etc.

I just wanted to let people know this happened. It's too bad. I hope that something good came from the call to the police.
