Green Line Extension Meeting

Those of us to the north and east of Davis Sq might be interested to know that InsideMedford reports that today, "The next Green Line Project Advisory Group meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 12, from 4PM to 6PM at New Parish Hall at St. Clement’s High School at 579 Boston Avenue in Medford." I hope some fans of mass transit will be able to attend and make sure everything's awesome.

Possible DS team @ the Avon Walk?

Is anybody here planning on doing the Avon 2 day walk next year? If there is interest, I'd like to put together a davis_square team. Having a team helps tremendously.

1) We can plan fundraising events together and distribute the money to each page based on how far away you are from reaching the minimum.

2) Local press loves these kinds of stories and so does LJ. We could get some free publicity.

3) The more people get involved, the wider our social networks in passing around our team page info on myspace, facebook, LJ, etc.

4) Individuals on teams historically raise more money than individuals not on teams and we all want to raise as much money as possible.

Ideally, I'd like to have at least 4 or 5 people. More than that would be awesome! Its a long way away but the fundraising challenge ($1800 minimum) is more daunting than the 36 mile walk over 2 days.

P.S., Being on a team doesn't mean we have to walk together.

BSC Reviews

I am considering a membership at the Davis BSC and wondering if any current/former members have any input on how busy the gym is during peak hours and the availability of equipment. I would most likely be going after work around 7:00pm, and looking mainly to use the treadmill, as well as some circuit machines.  Any other opinions on the gym itself?? I am currently a member at Gold's in Everett (and love it!), but looking at BSC for the convenience of location.

Preschools

I'm looking for general info on preschools, and recommendations for good local schools in the Camberville-Arlington area. I've got a child that will be turning 2 this January, and I'm confused about the "2.9 years old" cut-off. Does that mean 2 years, nine months, or should I convert 12 months to base 10 and then multiply by 9? I'm overthinking this because with a kid turning 2.9 right around September 2009 start dates, this distinction could be relevant. Also, are all schools hard and fast with this cutoff? If you know of a local school that isn't, please let me know.

save the willow tree in Davis sq!

 There's a wonderful icon in Davis Sq that may die- please help!

There's a historic willow tree at the end of Thorndike Street in Davis sq that is planning to be cut down. There were enough people standing around this tree this morning that stopped Cambridge Landscaping to continue chopping it down.  The land is owned by Joe Benoit.  The landscaping company is planning on returning next week to try again. The tenants and neighbors are starting a petition...we only have one week to see what we can do.  Can you help spread the word?
