Good Morning,

I was curious to know if anyone has had any experiences - good or bad - with Lorna Lally, DMD on College Ave in Somerville.  I've read through a number of the dentist posts, and her name has never come up.

I need to schedule a dentist appointment and since I pass the office everyday, I was thinking of scheduling one there.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

1/9/2009 FOLLOW-UP: Thank you to those who responded to my post.  I ended up making an appointment and had a really nice experience with Dr. Lally.  Everyone in the office was friendly and my mouth felt great afterwards.  The visit did take about an hour (with Dr. Lally the entire time), however, I hadn't been to the dentist in quite awhile and so the attention to detail was appreciated :)

Update -- at 7:30pm Penny was found!  She was one house away hiding under the back porch.  She seems to be in good health, just a little frightened from her "adventure".  Thank you all!

Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster.  I am writing to let you know that my cat went missing this morning in the vicinity of Dover St. and Mass Ave (near Pemberton Market).  Her name is Penny and is about 5 pounds, black and orange colored.  She is a torie domestic short hair.  She is very friendly with strangers but may be a bit nervous as this is her first time escaping!

She has a microchip implanted.  If you should see her please e-mail me at emailformat (at) gmail.com.  Thanks!

I am looking to start vermicomposting (composting with worms) and am trying to avoid the high cost of ordering red worms from the internet. Does anyone in the community (a) already vermicompost and would be willing to sell me some of their worms or (b) know a local bait shop that might sell them? (I already checked with the place on Broadway in Teele Square, no luck, unfortunately.) Thanks very much!

I received an email warning about street sweeping from Boston Sweeper (the boston.com service), this morning.

Street sweeping has of course taken a hiatus until 4/1. It would seem the folks over at boston.com don't know this. Just wanted to post here in case anyone else got an errant email.

So last Tuesday our toilet started making funny noises, and then suddenly we had four inches of sewage backed up into our bathtub. It was late at night by the time the plumber finally came up, and after snaking out the pipes, he decided that what we actually had was not a clog but a broken pipe.

For this to be fixed, an excavator has to dig up the street. They have to replace the entire length of pipe leading from under the house to the main sewer in the middle of the street. (We live on Willow Ave., towards the Ball Sq. end.) As it turned out, they couldn't dig last week due to the snowstorm combined with the holiday. We are now on our sixth day of being unable to shower or flush. Now they are telling us they can't excavate until Thursday because of this week's weather.

As far as I can tell (and it's NOT easy to get information), this is due to Dig Safe regulations. Meanwhile, we have another whole week of sending little to no water down the drains. Some of us are staying with friends, others are showering at the gym and putting off washing dishes. Meanwhile, there is still sewage in the bathtub since we can't wash it away. Also, they left the trap open in the basement so if it gets backed up it will at least go into the basement instead of our bathroom, but it's also letting sewer gases into the basement and from there into our apartment.

Has anyone encountered a situation like this? Do we have rights here that we aren't considering?

(forwarded from SomerStat Director Stephanie Hirsch <SHirsch@somervillema.gov>)

Please take a look at this half-time position with the City of Somerville - http://www.somervillema.gov/mysom_jobs_detail.cfm?instanceId=271.

This person will build out the City's website. We hope to use our website in the most innovative ways possible, including ways that promote on-line transactions and build community in Somerville. We need, however, a technical expert to help execute this vision.

The job might be perfect for someone (especially a Somerville resident!) doing contract work already or who has children at home part-time. I hope you will apply or forward the position to friends!

Contact Karthik Viswanathan, kviswanathan@somervillema.gov with questions.

Thanks, Stephanie
