What bars in the area (within a reasonable distance, preferably Davis) have that bar-top touch screen game thingy. You know, the one that eats your singles because they're so damn addicting?

Just wanted to let all the fellow Davis Square-ians know that the percussion group I play with, Marcus Santos & Bloco Afrobrazil, will be at Johnny D's this sunday night.  We're a 12 person drum troop, playing rocking percussion from Bahia.  We'll have an amazing singer, Ju Marciano, with us - so it'll be an awesome show!

Check out our homepage for more info about us: http://www.afrobrazil.org

Or you can friend us on facebook to keep tabs on this and future gigs!

Driving home this morning, I noticed a whole line of cars with traffic violation tickets along Kidder Ave and on the sidestreets, between Davis and Ball Square. I must have counted twenty ticketed cars in the space of a few blocks. It looked like the morning of a street-cleaning day! Although not every car was ticketed, it seemed as if the majority were. I was almost nervous to park my car in the usual spot!

What's going on? Were they out ticketing people for the 48-hour rule this morning in huge numbers (post-snow storm)? Is this normal on a Thursday morning, and I'm just now noticing it?

Call for Work:
Alter-Ego, Images Made with Toy Cameras and Alternative Photographic
Processes
Postmark Deadline: April 3, 2009
$15 nonrefundable entry fee

The Nave Gallery (Somerville, MA) seeks work made with toy cameras,
Polaroid/Polaroid transfers, cyanotypes, pinhole cameras,
platinum/palladium printing or any other alternative photographic
technique.

Film is dead, right? Not so fast. The proliferation of toy cameras, pinhole
camera kits and how-to-manuals for alternative processes suggests
otherwise. The exhibition Alter-Ego will celebrate the quirky, personal,
non-digital point of view of artists bucking the trend in the world of 21st
century photography. All themes will be considered.

Alter-Ego will take place from May 2-21, 2009 at the Nave Gallery. Please
send: $15 nonrefundable entry fee, a resume, statement, and up to 5 images
(slides or JPEGs on CD with accompanying image list), and an SASE if you
would like your submission materials returned to:

used tires?

I could use a set of tires and I'm feeling cheap.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places around Somerville (or as far as maybe Revere or Waltham) that sell used tires? It'd be cool if they can mount them, too, but if not I can have my usual garage do that... (and yeah, I'm checking Craigslist)

EDIT: Tires acquired, thanks for the replies!

I did not attend last night's Zoning Board of Appeal meeting, but I did get this e-mail today from Debra McLaughlin:

Arts at the Armory is pleased to announce that the Zoning Board of Appeals did approve our request to gain daytime use of the hall last night. The vote was 4-1 in favor of our application.

If anyone reading this attended yesterday's ZBA meeting, please tell us how you thought it went.

This event is really fun for people of all ages. Last time they had this there were kids from age 6 up to middle-aged adults making art cards, with the 10-13 male audience being the most prevalent (making action/adventure type role playing/trading cards). I highly recommend it, especially since his events usually cost money (they are usually fundraisers, I believe), and this one is free. I, myself, will be making more free-form story cards, to flesh out my deck that I started making last time the library hosted one of these...

Art Cards with Rob Logan

Make ‘em! Trade ‘em! Collect ‘em!

All ages are invited to join us for an afternoon of creating and trading unique cards. "If you can doodle, you can do it!” says Rob Logan, whose distinctive, quirky, colorful art has (literally) been a fixture at Redbones, the popular Somerville restaurant, for 10 years. Start with a blank 9-card template, add your art, have it laminated on the spot, and cut out the cards to keep, or to trade and collect. All materials will be provided - just bring your imagination! This free workshop is funded by the Friends of the Somerville Public Library. We hope we'll see you there!

Location: Central Library, 79 Highland Avenue
