Annoyed with all of the loud planes flying over Davis Square lately? File a noise complaint at:

http://www.massport.com/logan/airpo_noise_form.aspx

Somerville is currently suing the FAA for the 3X increase in planes over the past 2 years, and noise complaint reports supposedly help their case.

I suppose the folks at Tufts decided to load up on free movies before they left for Spring Break at the end of this week. Get 'em while you can.

Tufts Film Series shows "Milk" tonight at 8 with cookies and a discussion right after.

Other highlights:

* Also today, the Tufts Romance Language Department screens "Romano Criminale" (Italian) at 3 pm and "Je crois que je l'aime" (French) at 6:30 pm.
* The German House Monday night film series will show "Das Wunder von Bern".
* Tufts Hillel will present "Trembling Before G-d" on Tuesday at 7:30 pm with a discussion afterward.
* The Romance Language Department will screen "Carlota Joaquina - Princesa do Brazil" on Wednesday as part of their Brazilian Film Series.
* The Somerville Library will show "Annie Hall" on Thursday at 6:30 pm.

I'll keep my eyes open for more screenings and let you know. I'll be taking next week off for Spring Break.
Coming attractions... )

I noticed posters about this "group" the other day and had a look at their page and map. Thought I should put them on here to spread the word.

Anyone out there know much about this group and what they've done? and how do they get their data?

to the group of people sitting in the yard next to 118 holland street:(my old apartment, btw) i have no idea what exactly you were rating, but you held up signs that read 9 and 10 as i walked by with my boyfriend.

made the rest of the walk home an amusing one.

score one for random whimsy.

Maybe for the kids? Or as an extra clever doorstop?

It's actually quite functional. Just not up to today's speeds and depth of computing power.

It's got:

333 Megahertz! Zooom!
30 MB hard drive (or maybe 40?)
System 8.6! (That's like 10 years old, almost.)
some basic software (and an oddly large percentage of Micros**t stuff), like Apple Works, Quicktime, NanoSaur, but not much more
It looks like it could do internet, but you'd need to know how to set it up, as it doesn't know how to find the cable modem on it's own, and it's going to get unpleasant if you try to watch YouTube or anything fancy like that. :-) The last time it had a connection to the internet it was using a modem on the phone line, with Netscape 4.something.
Keyboard and Mouse.
CD-ROM
USB ports

It would be fine for a preschool classroom, or just some young kid who wants to play around with their own computer, for simple writing and drawing. But if you want to get anything off of it, you'd need a floppy or zip or CD-W drive with the driver software to make it work.

Or... turn it into some big art piece!

Most compelling request takes it!

And I might even be able to deliver it on my bike trailer, if you're in Somerville or Cambridge. Otherwise, pick up would be on Spring Hill, near the Hospital.

Does anybody know how much money the city of Somerville is paying out in attorney's fees/etc to continue this ridiculous lawsuit over airplane noise?

I ask this because in these harsh economic times, it seems to be a less than wise expenditure of money.
