Does anyone here have an old computer currently gathering dust that they're looking to get rid of? I am looking for a machine to store digital photos on and I need something with the following specs:

- SATA support (anything made in the last 6 years or so should have this)
- Room for at least two 3.5 inch hard disks (any non-low-profile machine should have this but if you're in doubt let me know what you have and I will try to research it myself)
- At least 1 gigabit ethernet connector OR an empty PCI slot (most machines made in the last 5 years will have at least one of these too).

The machine need not have any hard disks at all (but I'll take them if you're willing to part with them for free) as I'm planning on putting two fairly large ones in there once I have the machine.

I'll pay up to $75 depending on the machine. This appears to be about how much I'd have to spend to buy it on eBay, but I'd rather buy local if possible. :-)

Any takers?

Is anyone in this community a JAWS user? Or failing that, NVDA, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, etc.? And if so, would you be willing to sit down with me in front of the computer for an hour in return for me making you dinner or some other recompense of your choice?

I've been trying to get much better at doing good, screenreader-compliant programming, and I feel like I have run into a brick wall of understanding as much as I can about screenreader usability without actually watching and listening to somebody using screenreaders in the way that experienced users use them (as opposed to in the way that clueless sighted developers use them). I've been communicating with some of my end-users from a distance, but I would love the opportunity to work with someone local.

Let me know if you're willing. Like I said, I can cook you dinner, or bake for you, or something. Also, I can shower you with gratitude!

Taxes WTF

I've been in Europe since middle of October and will be here till middle of November. However, my gf checked my mail and was told that I got a bill for a property tax for 2nd quarter.

This is especially strange since my taxes get paid with my mortgage (to my lender who) who is supposed to pay my taxes. Also, the form is postmarked on Oct 22 but the forms (including a residential exemption) is due on the 1st.

Seriously WTF - who sends tax forms that are due 9 days from the due date.

Since I'm not even going to be home for another 2 weeks is there a way to get an extension or something like that?

I have a wooden rocker that desperately needs repair from someone who knows what they're doing with this sort of thing, since it likely needs to be taken apart completely and put back together in the right order, possibly with a few replacement pieces of wood cut.  Unfortunately, I've had some trouble finding someone who can do it, and I'd really like to get this fixed before yet another year goes by.

Photos of the damage are here, in case someone thinks they can do it and wants to know what they're getting into.  Barring that, ideas of area places that could, ideally, pick the chair up, fix it, and return it are welcome.  Thanks for any help you can be!
