There's a sign on the window announcing that "Tufts Convenience" will be coming into that space soon. The store itself is not ready, evidenced by the huge puddle of water on the floor. Not sure how the university would react to the name, but I guess it's no worse than "Eat at Jumbo's".

Zoned Parking update.

I wrote to my Alderman and got this back:

The idea of zoned parking was proposed before and it did not fly. I agree that a permit [should] be city wide. [...] I have no plans to support a zoned parking permit program and I will make sure the traffic commission knows that I do not support any changes to the current program.

Looks like they know that there's not much support for the concept.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone's Fitness Challenge

In case you are looking for something to do on what is rumored to be a gorgeous day this Saturday, the kick off for Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone's Fitness Challenge is being held at the Somerville High School Gym at 81 Highland Avenue from 12-5. There are going to be a lot of activities for kids, as well as some great treats for those who sign up for the challenge and other events. A few emails went out over Resistat about this, but since I had not yet seen it mentioned, I wanted to post it for those who many not be on the list!

The nice weather out there makes me feel like hauling the bike out of my (wet) basement and got me thinking -- when will the Historic Bike Ride be held this spring?

North Cambridge Family Opera - Performances March 20-21 and 27-28!

North Cambridge is close to Davis; please delete if you see fit, mods.

North Cambridge Family Opera is doing the original production, Springtime for Haman (get your Producers jokes out here, folks.) the weekends of March 20 and 27. That means this upcoming Saturday and Sunday and the next Saturday and Sunday. The two Saturday shows will be at 2:30 and 7 PM, the Sunday shows at 1:30 and 6 PM. All shows will be at the Peabody School, at 70 Rindge Avenue in Cambridge. (Off the 83 bus for MBTA folk, and it's also close to the 77.)

If you want to attend, there are two options for obtaining tickets! One being buying them online via the website, linked above. There is a small service fee this way.

The second option is, of course, buying them at the door. $10 for adults at the door, $5 for kids at the door.

It is a *really* fun show, with some fantastic music. (I admit it - I *love* a lot of the numbers I'm not in as much as I do the ones I am in.) And it is absolutely not over the top with the Biblical references - as the composer/librettist himself said, when writing this, he didn't want it to be the kind of thing that would get religious figures upset. So it's definitely not over the top, and I'm pretty sure the performers themselves range across the religious scale.

The entire cast has been working hard on this, and it's really going to be fantastic. So come see us!
