After several offers that turned out to be for their other location, Kickass Cupcakes in Davis finally has a discount offer - $10 for a 1/2 dozen cupcakes.

If you've never signed up for BuyWithMe, and would like to throw a referral my way, the link is here: http://www.buywithme.com/ref/QQ7XPRJN

Hooray for cupcakes!

So last night I parked in a spot in front of my apartment that I have been parking in for over 3 years. This morning I come out & have a ticket for not being 20 feet from the intersection. The "intersection" is a private way (to me this is like a drive way, not a real intersection, perhaps I'm wrong?) In the 3+ years I have lived here this has never been enforced on Richardson Street. When I look at the 5 spots on our street technically that leaves us with only 2 spots if we need to be 20' from every driveway & private way.

So what EXACTLY is considered an intersection in Somerville? Do driveways & private ways fall under intersections???

Trying to tick more things off the olde to do list.

Does anyone have a piano tuner recommendation?

We skipped July for our meetup, but we will come back stronger than ever in August!

Mark your calendars now, but the meetup will be on August 17 at 7pm in the back room of the Burren. As usual, we will be in the back left hand corner of the back room.

I'll send out reminders 1 week and 1 day ahead of time. Hope to see you on the 17th.

Cedar Street is closed in the last block before Elm St for some kind of major police presence in that area on Cedar and Cherry near Elm St. I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks like there's SWAT teams gearing up.

ETA: apparently a hostage situation. It's over now, and the various police and fire and other vehicles are starting to clear out.

Is anyone else having a problem with little oval shaped bugs (hard shell, can fly)? They are everywhere in our kitchen and getting into food. Vigilant cleaning is not seeming to help the situation - they've been around for about 2 months - though seems to be getting worse - now they are flying and landing on us too. Wondering if it's a seasonal thing, or if anyone knows what they are.

Dearest Wise Ones of DSLJ,

I have a few tomato plants in large pots growing in my yard, which is on the corner of a busy street outside of Davis. I live in a first floor apartment, so this is the most convenient and sunniest place to keep my plants. In the past few weeks, as some of my very first ripe tomatoes have started to appear, I've noticed that they seem to be disappearing at a faster rate than I'm picking them. This makes me sad/annoyed, since I'm new to growing veggies and am ecstatic every time a little cherry tomato looks ready for me to pick.

I'm pretty sure it's not an animal that's snacking on my veggies, since there are never any little bits left behind or bite marks on other tomatoes. They're popped off quite efficiently, as I would do myself.

What should I do? There's not really another place where I could keep them. I'm thinking of just putting a note outside next to the pots, something to the effect of, 'I know you're eating my tomatoes, and that really sucks since I put so much effort into growing them and now can't even enjoy eating them. I'll take a photo of you the next time I see you.' Any other ideas? If it's somebody hungry who doesn't have anything else to eat, I'd feel less annoyed of course, but they're little cherry tomatoes so even a handful (which would take my plants weeks to produce, at this point) would hardly be a satisfying snack.

What do you think?
Thanks.
