There's a free offer of some really lovely posters and educational material and even seeds promoting awareness of urban birds, from Cornell University.

Because, as you know, birds are people too! And some of them are especially awesome people that you might want to get to know even better. :-)

(I remember when I was up all night with a horrible toothache several years ago, when we were living behind the Armory, on Hudson Street, and I was just waiting to go to Tufts dental school to have an emergency tooth extraction, I was sitting on the front steps at something like 5 am, just as the sun was rising, a hummingbird, which I'd never seen in Somerville before, quietly flitted in and around the blossoms of the jasmine bush that was surrounding our tiny front garden. That sweet tiny bird having her breakfast made my otherwise tortuously painful morning just a little bit more tolerable. Thanks hummingbird!)

I was told by a friend that the Davis Square livejournal is pretty good at finding cats and I've lost mine, so I figured I would try! I lost my cat on 11/10 from 68 Glenwood Road off of Medford Street between Central and Lowell. It's near Magoun's Saloon. He is a year old male cat with his shots and he's been neutered. He has a home again tracking chip between his shoulder blades. He is not wearing a collar or tags b/c he's always been an indoor cat. I was moving and he was staying at a friends house when he got overly curious and got out. He is smallish and skinny/long. He's mostly white with black ears, black tail, two black spots on his back and one on his stomach and a small patch of black on his chin. His name is Amos but I'm not sure if he's aware of that. He is friendly and playful but I don't know if he will be a little freaked out. I really want to get him back and inside and safe!! I haven't offered a reward or anything but if you get my cat back to me I will do something really nice for you. I mean c'mon, look at this guy. Right??

Thanks for the help!

Restaurant.com has a thing where you can give free $10 gift certificates to restaurants to your friends, family, and strangers. There is usually a minimum purchase to use the certificates, so you have to be willing to spend a fair bit at these restaurants to begin with, but the certificates can save folks some money.

There are several participating restaurants in Somerville, and Mike's Pizza, right in Davis, is one. (And many more in the Boston area as a whole, too.)

Go here to register and start giving folks certificates. (I'm guessing that there will be some spam associated with this process, so keep that in mind when giving these things to people. :-)

(On a side note, there's apparently a new restaurant over on Washington Street called "Potato Freak". OK...)

EDIT: Rudy's, House of Tibet (in Teele), and Diva are listed too.
