Last year's Porchfest was a great success, so the Somerville Arts Council is planning another one, to be held all over the city on Saturday, May 19.

As the Arts Council describes it: "Perhaps you’ve sat on your porch and overheard a neighbor strumming guitar on another porch? Porchfest takes this idea and multiplies it. This is not a festival per se but rather a community event where Somervillians share their love of playing and listening to music. Think of Somerville Open Studios, which is for visual artists, but for music."

If you'd like to participate and be listed on the official Porchfest map, please go to http://somervilleartscouncil.org/porchfest and follow the three steps listed there. You can perform on your porch, or anyone else's porch that you have permission to use. Last year, some musicians also played on upper-floor balconies, rooftops, and public parks.

people were holding out, pending no formal announcement, but the phones were turned off at the beginning of the week, and Eater and Boston Restaurants are calling that a wrap.

Fenway is a 6 year old spayed female, black lab mix. She went missing from Pearson Ave in Somerville on March 6th at about 1pm. She was wearing a red collar with tags that have her name and owner's phone number on them. She is also microchipped. Because she is very friendly, it's likely that someone picked up Fenway and still has her.

Pictures of Fenway can be seen in the link below. Please spread the word, her family misses her very much!!

If you have any information regarding Fenway's whereabouts, please contact Somerville Animal Control.

Parts and Crafts + Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society have teamed up on a new project -- starting a Honk-Style marching band for kids!   This group is about making joyful noise with other people.  We're sticking with simple, danceable tunes; we're learning by ear; and we're learning together.  We welcome children, families, and anyone else that wants to be a part of a good groove.  We welcome experienced musicians as well as people who are new to their horn.

At the moment, we are calling ourselves the Underage Marching Menace.   We don't have an official site yet, but we have a Tumblr page!   Take a listen to hear what we're about: http://kids-street-band.tumblr.com/

DETAILS:
Where: The Clarendon Hill Church at 155 Powderhouse Blvd.  (map:http://g.co/maps/qejrb)
When: Sundays from 3-5PM
Who: You, and anyone you know!
Mailing List: http://groups.google.com/group/parts_and_crafts_band

RSVPs aren't required, but we'd love to know if you plan come (either by email or phone: 617.575.9219)!   To answer some other questions...
  • If you already have your own instrument, great!  Bring it with you!  If not, feel free to show up anyway to sing, stomp, crash a cymbal, or try some other instruments on for size.  If you're looking for a particular instrument, let us know!
  • All instruments are welcome, as long as they can move!  As we are a parading group at heart, we want instruments that can march, parade, and move around outside--especially as the weather gets warmer!
  • The band is facilitated by members of the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band <http://slsaps.org> along with some of the folks at Parts & Crafts <http://partsandcrafts.org>

All are welcome - no experience required.   Next rehearsal is this Sunday  (as in, almost today!) from 3-5 p.m.   Hope to see you there!
