After dismantling a failed koi pond/garden bed in the backyard of our recently purchased house, I have a ton of nice, flat, slate rock to give away. However, I would prefer not to give it away piecemeal to individual people - I tried this via the Somerville Loves Urban Gardening FB group, and while there was lots of interest, it was disruptive to my day to meet several folks individually (and I don't just want to advertise my address and have strangers tromping through my yard, especially since I am keeping *some* of the rock).

Any suggestions on how I can offload this slate in bulk?

A reminder that the next Davis Square Streetscape design meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday July 17, at 6 pm at the TAB Building, 167 Holland Street.

The final meeting will be Tuesday, August 7, same time and location. Here's a link to some earlier LJ discussion.

Couldn't find anything recent about dog walkers so I figured I'd ask. I'm looking for a good, not too painfully expensive mid-day dog walker to come by our house in Porter and take our pooch out for a stroll on weekdays. I'm not a fan of giving someone I don't know access to my house (the doggie daycare options just aren't convenient for us), so solid, trustworthy recommendations are really appreciated. Also if you can let me know what their rates are like that would be helpful too.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Can someone recommend some professional movers? I'm about to move from Somerville to Maryland, and since I don't know anybody in the MD area and my employer is covering my moving expenses, I thought I'd do myself a favor and hire someone, instead of just renting a truck. I've never hired movers before, though, and I'd like to make sure I don't end up locked outside of my apartment in my underwear while some guy demands an additional $500 if I ever want to get my stuff out of the truck.

I'm moving from one apartment to another, and I plan to fly down with my cat and meet the moving truck in MD, so I need to get the timing just right--preferably out on July 31st, can't move in until August 1st, etc. I'm leaving the bulk of of my heavy furniture behind, so it's going to be a relatively small load (lots of boxes of clothes and books and kitchen stuff, a desk, a few pieces of small furniture), rather than a whole house's worth of stuff, if that makes any difference.

I don't care if the movers themselves are based in Somerville or not, as long as they will work in the area, are reliable, and won't break the bank.
