Three years ago, I began making a Google Map of obscure stairways, ramps, paths, and shortcuts in and near Somerville. Since Google Map URLs are quite long, I gave this map a shorter one that's easy to remember:

http://TinyURL.com/ObscureSomerville

Please look at the map and let me know of anything you think should be added to, removed from, or changed on this map. You can comment here or send e-mail to the address on my LJ profile page.

I post this notice once or twice every year. Here are links to the earlier posts:
April 2012 | April 2011 | June 2010 | May 2010

(ETA: Even though I'm tagging this "bicycle", many or most of the places marked on the map are suitable only for pedestrian use.)

Nextdoor is a social networking site that is based around physical neighborhoods. It got discussed a bit here when it was first launched in the area. One of the things that people noticed as a big drawback was that the neighborhoods were small and their boundaries were strange.

Well, that hasn't changed. ;-) But they have implemented a new "nearby neighborhoods" feature which allows you to see posts from the surrounding area if you want (you can decide which of the neighborhoods you're interested in). For instance, as a member of the Powderhouse neighborhood, these are my nearby hoods )

There aren't a huge number of people there (about 80 in my neighborhood) or a lot of traffic, but I think this new feature could be very helpful for an area like ours. Nextdoor will never replace DSLJ, of course! But it could be another good place to post curb alerts, lost pet notices, and so on.
