Regarding the Brewery/Restaurant proposal that I posted about last week, I received an update from Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz:

I have been informed by the attorney that this applicant does not want to go forward this month and wants to wait until September. I'm happy about this since many interested people are away in August. So we will NOT have the community meeting on July 31st. I will let you know when it will be rescheduled - likely first or second week in September.

I really don't want to start a flame war - this is an honest question for people living in the area between Davis and Ball Square.

When I was younger I lived in JP. I loved it. However, it was a town where you didn't bother to put out a pumpkin in October because it would be smashed by morning, and you tried very hard to be home for deliveries because boxes would be stolen from the porch.

I've spent the past decade in West Roxbury, where you could have anything at all on your porch and yard and it would not be disturbed.

Now, in the process of moving in, I've been tossing empty boxes on the front porch. Some are broken down, but others are not obviously empty (full of packing material). The idea is to eventually post to Craigslist that there are empty boxes at *address*, and they go away. However, I have not posted that yet, because I have recently placed a number of mail orders, and I don't want my items to be taken by "accident" with the empties should they arrive. The problem is that I just got home, and someone has helped themselves to my empties anyway. On the face of it, that's fine - I wanted to be rid of them.

What I am wondering is, is this the sort of neighborhood where I ought to be trying to have my deliveries taken around to the rear for safety? Do people generally help themselves to things on porches? Some of my neighbors have quite elaborate sitting areas on porches and I figured there was no problem with respect of that space.

I'm "fine" with living in either sort of neighborhood, but I'd rather not find out the hard way which this is.

Hello Davis Square!

I've got three rooms available near Clarendon Hill that need to be filled by 9/1. Price range is $550-$650, depending on the room. There are three rooms on the first floor, all sharing one full bath, with a fourth bedroom in the basement with its own (3/4) bath. There is off street parking for up to three cars and plenty of street parking otherwise. All rooms are decently spacious and can handle queen sized beds with ease.

I do have a moderately fluffy dog. He's very friendly, but not hypoallergenic.

It's very T friendly, with a 12 minute walk to Davis, or 5 minute ride on the 87 or 88.

Please drop me a mail through LJ or comment if you want more information!

Sadly, my roommates and I are looking at the possibility of having to get the locks changed on our front door. We live near Harvard Square. Anyone have recommendations for a Cambridge/Somerville locksmith they really like? And, what's a reasonable price range we should expect them to charge us? Thanks.

Due to the impending marriage of my landlady's daughter, my roommate and I have to move out of the apartment I've lived in since 2000 (our apartment is the wedding gift it would seem!) by October 1.

So! We are looking for a 2 (or more) bedroom apartment. We currently live near Tufts University and it would be nice to stay in the same area since a lot of our friends are nearby. We've got one car and one cat. I've got a messed up knee so I'd like to avoid third floor walkups. We own a washer and dryer which we could either take with us if there are hookups, or sell if there's already washer and dryer in a new place.

We're both gainfully employed, financially secure and all that good stuff. If anyone has a place in the area and is looking for tenants, we'd be interested in talking with you.
