As the HONK! festival approaches, we are starting to think about the ecstatic noise, fun, and logistical challenges of bringing this spectacular festival to Davis Square. There's a lot of dancing, singing, and honking that needs to happen Columbus Day Weekend, but we could also use help setting up tables, serving meals to musicians, selling t shirts, marshaling the parade, and more.

If you're interested in volunteering at the HONK! Festival this year, join us Sunday September 14 at 6PM for a volunteer party & info session at sprout's studios at 339R Summer St. Somerville. There will be food, music by the Second Line Brass Band, and a mini parade to Davis Square. Bring your friends! If you can't make it, or you have any questions, let me know at volunteer@honkfest.org. Get in touch if you have any questions, and we hope to see you soon!

WHAT: HONK! Volunteer Party
WHEN: Sunday September 14 at 6PM
WHERE: sprout's studios @ 339R Summer St. Somerville

Does anyone know why the City would ticket Somerville's own residents for expired inspection stickers? -- Two tickets 3 days apart? If I owned a driveway, they would not have done this... Can't they stick to the spirit of protecting our residential parking spots from outsiders? How about a warning instead, or a friendly reminder? And then a few days to get a sticker...

And why do they ticket cars after the street cleaner has already passed? I don't get any of those tickets for that reason, but it seems silly to not be able to park after the cleaner has clearly already passed... Is anyone else interested in getting some of these unfriendly policies changed? Also, why do we pay an extra Internet fee to pay tickets and update parking passes for a service which clearly must save the city time and money from waiting on us in person? How does the city award the contract to an Internet company which is making so much money for so little service?

Does anyone have a list of local politicians that support these policies and another list of who would rather see changes made?

Thanks so much!

Tomorrow is state primary election day. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm.

There are contested statewide Democratic races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and treasurer -- all offices whose current occupants are not seeking re-election. In addition, there's a contest for Middlesex County district attorney. If you live in Somerville Ward 4 or 7 or adjoining parts of Medford, you also have a contested race for the state representative seat recently vacated by Carl Sciortino.

If you are enrolled in a party, you may take only that party's primary ballot. If you are NOT enrolled (independent), you may choose which party's ballot to take. The Republican ballot has only a single contested race, for Governor.

To find out where to vote, and to see a sample ballot, go to http://WhereDoIVoteMA.com and enter your street address.

If you have moved within the past 20 days, or since you last registered to vote, you will need to return to your old address's polling place to vote.

The Massachusetts League of Women Voters has posted a voters' guide for statewide offices -- worth a look if you still aren't sure who to vote for. See also the candidate responses to Progressive Massachusetts' questionnaires.
